Upgrade from GTX275 @ 1680x1050?

to replace my GTX 275. The 275 is holding up pretty well, but it is incredibly hot and loud. With summer here, the room I use the computer in gets very hot and the fan at full speed sounds like a vacuum cleaner. So, In addition to power, I also want quiet and cool in a new card. Here are my specs, thanks in advance for the advice:
cpu: i7 870, 8gb ram
video: gtx275
monitor: 1680x1050

under full load a gtx560 Ti can use more power resulting in more heat in your room if that is your concern. the gpu itself may have lower temps and the cooler may be quieter but the heat generated will be about the same as you are used to.

I think you should wait. If you just want similar performance up to a slight gain but at lower temps, get the 6850. 6950 is where you will start noticing the performance gains but I think its just best to wait this far into the gpu cycle. Nvidia cards that perform significantly better than your 275 will still be hot.

Best solution for your card would be to replace the stock cooler with an aftermarket cooler. That will be a cheap upgrade and will solve the noise issue.

I have the GTX275 from EVGA, the FTW edition with 713Mhz core. Hot yes, loud no, but everyone has its own standards. Still rocking and after I got an i5-2500K there's the second life of this card. Playing at the same res as you there is not one game that can bring it to its knees on max settings. But back on topic I'd say go with the 560Ti, great perf for the price, about 30% faster than our cards plus DX11.

My GTX idles at 57deg and hits 90deg when playing...fan goes into high and it pretty much hovers at 88-90 degrees C. I would have thought a 560ti would be putting out less heat???

How long do I have to wait for the next wave of cards? I agree that at 1680 my card is hanging in there for now pretty well.

either you have poor case airflow or your card is clogged with dust or maybe both. those temps are not normal.

Well, I do have it in a P183b case, but it's a recent install, so no dust. It's always been at those temps even new.

Hmmm I think you may be misinformed here.

It looks like under normal loads the gtx560ti draws slightly less power, and worse case scenario the gap widens with gtx275 drawing even more and more.

my guess is around the beginning of next year. I think AMD made an announcement that we will see new cards this year but they didn't say if all the models will be out this year.

I agree that those temps seem high for the GTX 275. If I remember correctly, those cards are 55nm process, while my GTX 260 core 216 65nm kept much cooler. What brand/model of the 275 do you have, and have you tried comparing it with other owners of the same card? If it is evga, I would try their forums/techsupport, you never know, you might have a defective part on your card (poor thermal contact, defective cooler, etc)

The temps are way too high. My GTX 275 is the highest factory overclocked card that was available, EVGA. It idles at 40 with the fan profile set at 50% and under max load it goes up to 72-74 with fan at 80%. Check the dust, use an air can it can do miracles.
