Is it worthwhile to upgrade from my current processor to the q9950. Being as i cant really overclock too much pc is sff shuttle and temps drastically increase with just the slightlest change in temp. due to the wonderful way shuttle designed there computer. Assuming i have someone to purchase mine for a descent amount would the upgrade be worth it?

Sorry about any spelling errors or grammar just got home from drinking

It probably isn't worth it considering a q9550 goes for about $300 and the max resale value of a q6600 is about $150.

Not worth it. Cost aside, the performance increase just doesn't make this a worthy upgrade for most. Even if one overclocks their cpu.

might be worth it to buy case and motherboard for the Q6600 that way you can overclock it. probally be cheaper that way anyhow depending on what motherboard you buy

If you want to keep your Shuttle, I'd get a dual core (E8400, E8600 etc) and overclock it to 4GHz. It will probably produce a similar amount of heat/power consumption to a G0 Q6600 around stock. Since you have a Shuttle I'm assuming it's a gaming rig, in which case a highly clocked dual core will murder a ~2.4GHz-3GHz quad in terms of frame rates. If you want a quad for encoding and other uses you really need a big case, Shuttle is only useful if you are in a dorm or going to LANs.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is a "Shuttle"? Is that a brand name? Can you post pics or something if applicable?

Go for one of the 45nm dual-cores, they run much cooler than the 65nm quads. OC to the board's limit and you should be happy with the results.

Should be nearly a wash, or even advantageous to you. I just got an e3110 on eBay for $99 shipped after MS cashback. Assuming you can get $130-150 for your q6600 you may actually make a little money on the switch. Just make sure you update the BIOS on your Shuttle before you pull the q6600 so you are sure it will support the new chip.

Belldo.

Your quad is still powerfull enough to run any of today's game. getting your wolfdale/penryn is nothing more then e-penis comparison.
Save your cash for a nice Core i7 upgrade somewhere next year.

I was actually thinking of doing that but i was just curious if the added cache and speed were a worthwhile upgrade but after reading the posts and thinking about it i think i am just better off waiting and getting a new Core i7 upgrade in about a year
