Depends on your use case. What do you do with your phone? What carrier are you on?

Generally, I'd say no.

OMG, please change carriers.

I've been on T-Mobile, Verizon, and ATT, but I will never, ever switch to Sprint unless they somehow magically develop a good network. Even T-Mobile has respectable speeds in key markets, Sprint just looks like crap just about everywhere.

I have to

But Verizon and T-mobile were my favorite services and the only reason i got this phone was because it was free from my job but now i want to upgrade as the phones performance isn't the greatest and the internet is terrible when not on wifi

So do you guys think its worth switching to a Nexus 4 if not what would you recommend that won't cost to much.

I don't think Nexus 4 is compatible with Sprint, only with GSM carriers like ATT and T-Mobile, and even then only with 3G or HSPA+.

There might be a new LTE/CDMA Nexus 4 coming this month, though, which would be announced at Google I/O next week I'm guessing if true.

Off-contract there isn't a mid-to-high-end phone that is better value than the Nexus 4 right now.

Ok, well, first off, a new phone on Sprint will generally help your network speeds as the roll out their LTE network nationwide, so it's good to go ahead and upgrade. But secondly, if you're on Sprint, you can't get a Nexus 4. Did you say you WERE switching carriers to AT&T or TMobile?

If you stick with Sprint, then the HTC One or SGS4 are your best bets right now.

what area of memphis? It was one of the early network vision areas and has launched lte with what seems like a pretty decent footprint.

in fact, the at&t and sprint lte coverage looks pretty on par, but at&t has more of the suburbs covered. Not that the n4 is lte compatible to begin with though.

Oh ok, I was confused there.

Definitely get the Nexus 4, then, if you want to get an unsubsidized phone.
If you don't mind getting a subsidized phone I heartily recommend getting the HTC One. I'm very happy with mine.

So, west of Bartlett? Looks like you have Sprint LTE coverage there. Punch your zip in the coverage map and check it out.

I don't know if you can trust their maps. Not that I'm suggesting carriers lie, but I've heard (yes, I know I'm being vague) that coverage maps aren't trustworthy.

I'd ask people you know with Sprint LTE phones about LTE coverage before checking any carrier coverage maps.

Don't want to deal with Sprint anymore just gonna switch services

and Plus the map isn't really trust worthy. My friend has a Galaxy S III with sprint and he still gets terrible service and his phone is LTE

Doesn't matter to me as TouchWiz wasn't really bad but i think a clean stock Rom would be great and i wouldn't have to root to get it

Then if you're looking to bail, I'd probably only look at AT&T. They have most of the area covered in HSPA, so that means even if you're not in a LTE area, you'll get decent speeds, as opposed to Verizon where you'll drop to EVDO and get the sprint level speeds you're used to. And Verizon's network is "pockety" in that area. We have some field engineers in Memphis and they constantly complain about their air cards switching between LTE and EVDO.

Your only other major choice is TMobile. But it's going to be a joke once you get outside of the city.

Don't want AT&T as i've always had bad experiences with them. The city's i normally visit have pretty good T-mobile Coverage which is Virginia, Los Angeles, Miami etc.

Sprint's coverage map is basically lies. They're assuming no buildings to interfere with signal or terrain obstruction.

I have the same phone as you - Epic 4g Touch and yes, Sprint 3G sux monkeyballs. On top of that, I was running CM9 for months and totally forgot about 4G on the phone (it doesn't have a 4G toggle on the notification bar). Now, once I discovered 4G toggle and the fact that this phone is WIMAX capable, I get 4G WIMAX everywhere. I have also noticed improvements in speeds and rate of connection in the past few months. According to Sprint, 4G is active in your area but only as LTE and not WIMAX. You would need to upgrade to a LTE phone to take advantage of it in your area.

To summarize, Sprint is f'in horrible if your option is only 3G.

Current running: 4.2.2 cm10.1 based rom (Beanstalk) - since the source got released i get pretty good battery life as well. My contract is up in June so I still weighing my options. I'll prob stick around (upgrading to LTE as well) as it is the only carrier with unlimited data. Sprint announced new LTE upgrades all over several parts of the country for this year as well.
