I have the option of returning it all with all the $$ back. He doesn't want to break up the package since it's been tweaked, asked about removing the processor since it seems to be a sore point.

I ran a comparison with 5 other CPU's over are Passmark Software; here is the results. note the last column.

3900X's multicore perf isn't bad but look at the single thread rating. Only 2704 compared to the higher rating of 5600X and 5700X. That rating determines the "responsiveness" of the system, like how quickly Start menu pops up. The 5700X seems like a more balanced choice for you since you get double the single thread performance of your current CPU and more than four times the multithread performance.

The 3900X is two sets of 12 threads separated by an invisible bridge between them. Any time all the threads need to "talk" to each other to accomplish a task cooperatively, they will waste time speaking to each other over the bridge. The 5700X has all 16 threads in the same space. No bridge so no bridge latency issue.
