Hi all

Just wondering if this would be a good video card to replace my 9800GTX+ card? I can get the card for $250.

I game at 1920x1200

Here are my specs:
X6800 2.9 running @ 3.2
2G DDR2 800
Gigabyte P35 DSL3 ver 2.0
1TB WD hard drive
Windows 7 Home Premium X64
Soundblaster XFI 5.1

It's a decent jump but just for a little more you can get a 5850 that's faster and has more features.

ya that is the problem. I was even thinking of getting an XFX 5770 for CDN$194, which would be a much better deal, I think?

5770? It would be a little bit better. Its not THAT much of an upgrade though. A 5850 is a much better upgrade for not too much more. You wont regret that.

I wouldn't touch the 5770 if I was you, you won't be getting much more performance at all. Either the GTX 285 or 5850 or something even faster would be very nice upgrades.

I consider the 5770 to be the better upgrade because it supports DX11 which the GTX 285, as fast as it is, does not.

The problem with the 5770 is it doesn't perform that well at the resolution you run at 1080P.

I would wait another month or two when GTX 460 is released around $300 and might bump prices down on the 5850 or it may be the card you want.

The HD5770 isn't fast enough to utilize DX11 anyway, so that's a moot point. Have you seen what the DX11 effects do to performance in Metro 2033 for example?

The GTX460 is expected to have 20% less SPs than a GTX470. No way it will be able to match a HD5850 in performance. And for $300 it will be a very bad value card. But time will tell.

So a GTX285, unless you can get it for ~220-240$, is a bad value card. I'd say go for a HD5850 at least if you want to upgrade now, if you can't find a GTX285 for the mentioned price.
