Upgrade from 9600GT to GTS250

difference sure but not enough justify an upgrade for most part. Why don't you upgrade to GTX260 instead. Around $150 after rebates.

What games do you play, and at what resolution?
 
Right now I play at 1920x1200 and I play WOW, NHL 09, and Major League Baseball 2K9. I'd like to start playing Left 4 Dead.
 
i think that e6xxx might bottleneck just a tiny bit. but shouldn't be too bad. also stx260-216 can be had for about $150AR these days would be a better jump for you coming from 9600gt.
 
9600gt shouldn't be a terrible performer in those games, but if you want to run that res with all the goodies on i'd throw in another vote for a gts260 or a 4870. you proc won't be much of a bottleneck, gts250 just isn't a great upgrade.
 
I've got a Xfinity Ultra 600W PSU. The specs are the +3.3V is 30A and the +5V is 25A. The +12V1 is 18A and the +12V2 is 20A.


 
Get a used one if you can't afford new. I picked up brand new EVGA GTX 260 216sp for $150 shipped. So if you be patient you can find the card you want for the price you want.
 
JerYnkFan, what's your budget? Rebated GTS 250 are down to around $110 and IMO it is a good bit faster than a 9600 GT. However, the GTX 260 will be yet again faster. Since your PSU is not necessarily holding you back, it comes down to budget. There are GTX 260 graphics cards available for $150 after rebate with free shipping, lifetime warranty, trade-up program, etc.
 
LOL...just won it so I haven't gotten it yet...will post once I get it. Since it uses the same drivers as my 9600GT, I assume there is no need to uninstall/reinstall the drivers again correct?

Depends on how old your drivers are. Never hurts to have new drivers downloaded and ready to go.

Always uninstall and reinstall drivers. For the 5 minutes it takes, why not? Excellent buy though 😀

If you plan on getting a monitor with increased resolution a better video card will help (no matter what CPU you have).

These days with 1920x1080 monitors being so cheap ($165) the issue of CPU bottleneck is lessened if a move to higher resolution has been made.
 
Got the card today. Runs like a champ. Haven't played anything yet that will push it (only MLB 2K9 and Splinter Cell, but I did get Far Cry 2 included so I'll try that out at some point. I just can't believe how darn big the card is...gonna need bigger cases if this keeps up.
 
Have you overclocked your e6750 at all? It is easy to get this cpu to 3.2 ghz and I don't think that is much of a bottleneck at all for most high end cards.
