Upgrade from 9500 Pro to X1600 Pro (AGP) Is it Worth?

Hello there. I googled for reviews and I couldnt find what a 9500 Pro is comparable in today standards (to a X700 ? ). So, I dont know how much better a X1600 Pro is vs a 9500 Pro (besides SM3.0).
What do you think? is it a good move? He has not much money and HE WANTS ATI. Not NvIdia.

X1600 is a pretty terrible card, not even equivalent to the 6600GT. For the price, you could probably get an X800XL.

not in my country. here in Argentina a X800Xl is 100 dollares more than the X1600 Pro

Here in Argentina, prices are much different from US.
What I Ask is if it is worth upgrading from a 9500 Pro to a X1600 Pro, and What actual model is comparable to a 9500 Pro (X700 maybe? )

6600GT AGP << worth the upgrade
X800GTO AGP << worth the upgrade


9500pro was faster than 9600XT but a bit slower than 9700pro.

6600GT beat the crap out of 9800Pro/FX5950U

Are you guys kidding? A X1600 Pro is a lot better than a 6600GT...

I would recommend getting the x800 series though.

I have to concur, a X1600 Pro is much faster than a 9500 Pro. It should give him a nicer gaming experience especially with the latest ATI drivers.

Are we talking about the 512meg x1600Pro that retails for around $175? DDR2? I have a friend who has a young daughter so he doesn't really game enough to justify upgrading to PCIe or to the 7800GS in AGP flavor. This leaves him with the 7600GS and the x1600 Pro. Any suggestions or is there an option I am missing? He currently has a malfunctioning 6600GT so anything would be an improvement. He plays CS:Source, BF2, Rome Total War and varied and sundried adventure games - D&D types but usually only single player.

I don't think they make a GT in AGP, or atleast nothing I've heard of. I'm gonna recommend the GS however.

He already has a 6600GT and I don't think I can convince him to buy another (it's malfunctioning). Also, both those options are last-gen cards. I mean, I'm not sure what benefit besides the die-shrink he will gain, but it makes sense to buy moving forward, no?

The feature set between the 6 and 7 series is nearly identical, the 7s are just faster. Meanwhile, the X series doesn't support SM3.0 like the X1K series.

Right, so neither of those suggestions is terribly pragmatic. Again, I am down to the 7600GS and the x1600Pro. I'm pretty sure the GS is the better card but I have zero ATI experience as I have never taken 1 moment out of my life to shop for one. If none of the ATI-homers can recommend an ATI card then it seems like this is an easy call. ~$200 AGP cards don't leave much to the imagination.

7600GS will stomp all over the X1600 Pro, it is as fast as a x1600xt in most cases.
