The 7750 will serve you well, had a gtx650 which is nearly identical performance wise and i found in my older games like BF2 and UT3 where i used to get a certain framerate with my old 8800gts 512mb that i got a way better overall experience with the gtx650.

With DX11 games the gap should be even further, got your 7750 consuming nearly half the power of a 8800gt while being faster and years cooler with half the noise, its a win all around for a budget card trust me.

Hey thanks yes I'm already convinced about the 7750 being 50% better or more than the 8800gt, we were just talking about whether the 7770 might be better.

Easy fix - pull the new memory sticks out and see if it boots.

One word of warning - I have had previous experiences with motherboards of that generation not working with four sticks of RAM installed. The best thing to do is to enter the BIOS with two sticks installed, set the memory speed to DDR2-667, the voltage to 2.1V, and leave the timings as they are, shut it down, reinstall the new sticks, and see if you can boot into the OS.

I removed the new sticks and it works fine. I set the DRAM to 667 and voltage to 2.1 but with those settings I had no signal at all..

Also the shop got back to me and said I can change the card for the 7770, delivery tomorrow morning, hope I made the right choice. I was kind of hoping they might say I can't change it lol! I just hope I dont have any power problems thats why.

That's good news on the 7770. Overall it's a better value, even if you won't tap all its power.

If the system boots with three sticks, I'd leave it at that. With a 32-bit operating system, you won't be able to use more anyway. Troubleshooting RAM on an old board like that isn't worth the time. I had problems with every socket 775 system that I tried four sticks in.

Yep I hope so, I'm just a liiiiitle bit worried about my psu, but the 6 pin plug is there and power consumption here looks to be ok I guess.

I've just got this feeling that something will go wrong like it wont fit or wont run and I'll be going aaargh I should have kept the 7750, I'm terrible with decisions.

It will be fine. When you overclock your processor, don't increase the voltage. That will keep power consumption down. You should be able to hit 3.4GHz.

You are going to hate me for this, should I just call them and say I'd like to keep the 7750?

I don't think the 7770 will perform much better in your system, but I don't think it will overload your power supply either.

Wouldn't you rather just start playing the games you got the new card for, though? Your system is up and running, which is worth a lot on its own. As you've already seen, upgrading an older system does not always go as planned, so I'd probably just leave it as is and start using it.

I just canceled tomorrow's order! haha thanks termie. I'm going to set it up with the 7750. I'll get back to you.
