Would it be worth it to upgrade from a 6600GT to a 7600GT at factory clocks? I play COD2 at 10 x 12 and it gets a little choppy when the action gets heavy.

i would try instead to find a 7800gt or better if u can afford it. x1800xt 512 is selling for 250 USD on newegg right now, thats a deal thats hard to beat. u might also consider the x850xt which is in the same price range as the 7600gt. if u do decide to go with the 7600gt u wont be dissapointed tho, its gonna be faster than ur 660 by HUGE margins.

Thanks for the replies. I can't afford a 7800GT. I can pickup a 7600GT anywhere between $150 and $170 at NewEgg. That is over $100 less than a 7800GT, so that is why I am looking at the 7600GT.

Would the 7600GT be a noticable improvement over the 6600GT? If it only a slight improvement, then I will continue to wait until prices on the higher end cards come down and I can afford an upgrade that provides a noticable improvement. Like I said, when I play games, it is games like COD2 and Far Cry.

Thanks.

The 7600gt can dance around a 6600gt and kick it a couple times before running off unseen. It can easily perform double that of a 6600gt and 6800GS (to a lesser extent). The only real complaint with it is the fan; I just got one and it is annoyingly loud when under 'heavier' load, but then again, my side panels are off. Go check some benchmarks or reviews of 7600gt. However, if you can hold off a while and skip a generation, a 6600 should still be pretty good running stuff at medium. If not, can't go wrong with 7600.

I would get this X1800GTO instead.

It's faster than a 7600GT for $200 if you can afford it.

Or better yet, keep the 6600GT for now and save up for this X1800XT, as the 6600GT is still a decent card, and you can always turn down some settings, like turn the game to DX7 like another poster said, or turn down other settings. Turning off the shadows will be a pretty good boost if you haven't tried that yet.

X1800XT.

I agree 100% with grabbing an X1800GTO. They aren't much more then a 7600GT, and are faster overall, especially considering how well they seem to overclock. You can sell your current 6600GT for 50~70 on the FS/FT forum, and then it wouldn't really cost you much.

What about power supply constrictions? The 1800GTO is an electric hog in comparison to the 7600GT.

Anybody else know about these things?

Well, you all have got me thinking about the X1800 GTO now. I can purchase a connect3D X1800GTO for $180 (after $60 MIR). That is not too much more than a 7600GT would cost me. Hmmmm.

I did look at the comparisons and it looks like the 7600GT is faster in OpenGL games, but the X1800GTO is faster in Direct3D games. Right now, I am playing Direct3D games.

If I didn't hate MIRs so much, this would be an easy decision. I will have to mull this over a bit more.

From benchmarks I've seen, the 7600gt beat the x1800gto in most situations by a good margin. Now if you were to get one of those x1800gto's that unlock to a x1800XL, then it would probably be a better catch, especially since you mentioned you play D3D games.

Yes, I have been reading various articals about the X1800GTO and the 7600GT. I think in the end I am going to go for the 7600GT. It is cheaper and the stock performance is similar to the X1800GTO. I will probably wait a week or two before ordering though. See if Newegg will drop the price anymore or at least through in some free shipping. Out of all the searches I have done, Newegg consistently has the best prices on video cards.

That is about $100 more than the 7600GT. I looked at Newegg yesterday and the cheapest was actually around $260 - $270. That is more than $100 difference. My budget will not stretch that far. Besides, according to this artical (Link), the 7600GT gives you the best bang for your $$.

Now, if you could find an X1800XT for $200 or less, that would be a different story.

Actually, I just looked at Newegg and the cheapest new X1800XT was $284. Ouch!!! Might as well get a 7900GT.
