I have an factory OC'ed 460. Its super loud and hot.

It is by far the loudest card I have ever had, and its the main reason why I want to upgrade. The graphics card market is a bit over saturated with so many cards and are priced fairly similar.

What would you upgrade to from a 460 from the mid-range of cards on offer today?

Loud and hot GTX 460 sounds not correct. "With Gigabyte’s custom dual fan heatsink, temperatures are kept well in check while the acoustics are kept lower than most other cards on the market. In short, this card is astonishingly quiet."

Top three reviews in a google search shows it's among the quietest and lowest temp cards released in the last few years. Kaihonsou, it sounds like you got a bad video card. Either the heatsink isn't seated properly on the GPU, or the GPU itself is running way hotter than it should be.

yeah the OP's card must be defective.

anyway, if suggesting a new gpu then you guys know the basics which means the OP should list ALL his current specs in detail. that includes power supply and resolution.

Resolution is 1650 x 1050, although at some point I will buy a new 24' monitor.

Power supply Is not relevant here, most newer cards are much more energy efficient.

Thanks for all the replies. Have my eyes on a 7850, but I heard today that the 660 Ti is going to be released super soon?

I asked for ALL of your specs in detail and you gave nothing but your resolution.

This. At $239.99, it's a good deal. Performance wise, it should be about ~30-40% faster than your current card, let alone all the power saving technologies built-in to the card and dual fan setup should make it relatively quiet under load.

If you can wait, then wait.. there is always something around the next corner :p
