if you OC your CPU it could last you awhile longer, but you will see some big improvements going to the i5. 750w is more then enough, you could be fine with an i5 and 6970 on a good 550w unit.

Get the cooler master Hyper 212+ or something similar, the stock cooler sucks.

yes the ASRock ex3 gen3 is good.

yes. the coolers are fine

yes 750 is MORE than enough

sell off your Q3000 and Mobo on the FS/FT forum and use that money to buy the Mobo.CPU combo

I am from the Netherlands tho, I presume FS/FT forum is American?
I'll try to sell those at a dutch ebay site.

Oh, Netherlands, seems hard.

The FS/FT is the America and Canada (sadly)

eBay does sound like a good idea.

Already mentioned that BF3 may be very VRAM hungry. 6870 has 1GB VRAM. Don't buy 6870 if you want to play BF3, at least not before BF3 comes out so you can look at benchies.

If you absolutely want to upgrade SOON, then go for a 6950 2GB (Sapphire Toxic or MSI Twin Frozr III Power Edition).
Couldn't he just get a 2gb GTX460 for the same price? Last I checked the 460 and 6870 were pretty close performance wise.

I don't think he wants a single 6870, but something faster. And GTX460 is maybe 10-20% slower; it competes with HD6850

Well, I'm not everyone, but I agree with mnewsham. His recommendation of Z68 Extreme3 + i5 2500K is spot on.

The GTX 460 2GB isn't really fast enough to take advantage of that much VRAM. Holding a bunch of textures in memory is pretty useless if you can't actually shade them all in a reasonable amount of time. The 2GB version is basically there to draw in uninformed people who "want the one with the bigger GBs".

Im thinking, get a better foundation by upgrading your motherboard CPU rather than a new graphics card. I am opposed to a new video card for two reasons:

1) The cost of video cards falls much faster than new platforms due to the rapid product cycle in the GPU biz. Wait a few more months for a new release and that same card might be half price.

2) A new video card will only benefit a few applications. A New CPU and Motherboard will improve everything. Your existing Video card is acceptable for 90% of all current games.

Personally, I would wait few more months since AMD and Intel are set to release new sockets and your Core2 platform still has a few more years of life left before it's completely obsolete. Since you have an existing ATi, card it might be smart to consider the FM1 or FM2 sockets.

I am going to wait with buying a new videocard untill the 7xxx comes out.
And i am going to wait for the Bulldozer series.

They got me really intrested in the Z68 and I5 2500k in this topic hehe..

Yes, both are technically going to release new sockets. No, neither of them are in the range that the OP is looking for. The OP will be looking at Sandy Bridge/Ivy Bridge on the Intel side, both of which are the currently released 1155. Over at AMD, Bulldozer is again the currently-released AM3+.

So it would be save to buy a 2500k now?

Thanks for your reply:)

How much can I ask for my used hardware?
Q8300 for 50 dollar?
P5Q for 30 dollar?

And how much ram is enough for gaming?
4 gig?

I'd say so. I doubt Bulldozer will be godly, but I think that it will be competitive. If you wait, you can probably buy the i5 2500K for a lower price, but that is always the case.

No price checks here unfortunately. 4GB of RAM is enough for gaming, especially since most games are still 32-bit executables. 8GB is really really cheap though ($40), so that is the usual recommendation.

Oke, thank you! I just keep an eye on these forums for Bulldozer releases:sneaky:
Any brand that you recommend for RAM?
