This...can't be good.

The new CPU and motherboard are the E6600 and the Foxconn G9657MA. The CPU heatsink is the same one I used on my old Prescott just a few hours ago - a Zalman CNPS7000B-CU. I first noticed something wasn't quite right when I opened Lavalys for the first time since the upgade. The CPU cooler's fan RPMs were reported to be 900 RPM -- it was always right around 2600 RPM before. I don't even think that Zalman can go below 1300 RPM based on the specs I remember...

I knew for sure something was wrong when I installed and ran the control panel + overclock program that came with the motherboard. Right off the bat, the fan readout in the program was flashing red and it was emitting a really loud motherboard beep every few seconds. The warning said "Fan Speed Too Low"

The CPU temp itself seems ok (38C - 40C reported by the BIOS) and the fan motherboard input seems secure, but the fan speed is not right at all.

What could be the problem ?

Make sure CPU fan control is turned off in the bios. Also, turn off CPU fan warning as your fan will spin slower than the stock fan and always trigger the warning.

Well, after two hours of fiddling around with the BIOS, the FOX ONE program, and various 3rd party utilities (not to mention deciphering some amusing ingrish as far as the Foxconn documentation...), I think I've finally got it fixed. Fan speed is back up to 2600, core temperature is down to 28-31 (I turned the AC on in my room, so that accounts for some of the temp decrease).

Turns out the board shipped with a horribly incomplete/outdated BIOS :| . An update set things right.

Anyways, thanks for the help (I disabled CPU control of the fan).
