Upgrade Advice

Hello,

I have about $200 to put into upgrades for my current pc. I mostly game wtih a VoIP client running, and occasionally a streaming service like Netlfix or Hulu on a second monitor. I'm trying to figure out what will give me the most bang for my buck performance wise.

Current system:

CPU: AMD FX-4100
MOBO: ASRock 970 Extreme3 AM3+
GPU: HIS H785F2G2M Raseon HD 7850 2GB
RAM: 8gb Gskills 240 DDR3 PC 1600 2 x 4gb
HD: Samsung SSD 840 EVO

I was thinking about adding 8gb of RAM and going to an FX-8350 or FX-8320E, but not sure that would be better than a newer GPU or what. Thanks for any help, and if more info is needed please ask!

Depends on the games that you play to be honest, that set up should run most popular titles fairly well but a lot of modern titles will probably demand a bit more from the GPU itself. What titles are you aiming to improve performance in?

Diablo 3 is what I've been playing recently, and it's the first game where I've experienced screen stutters and spikes throughout normal gameplay. Looking forward to witcher 3 and some others so thought might be time to upgrade since it's been a couple years. Appreciate your help!

You're most likely seeing CPU limitations in Diablo III, a 7850 should handle that game with no problems. However, you will likely need to upgrade both your CPU and GPU to play The Witcher 3 smoothly.

For a CPU upgrade, I would probably save up some more to buy an i5 setup rather than throwing more money at AM3. Something like this would be a very nice upgrade:

i5 4590 $190 AP
ASRock B85M $63
Total: $253 AP
