Primary use for the computer is Adobe Premiere and Photoshop.
Currently running the i7 860.

Looking at possibly the i7 4790? But I have been completely out of the computer hardware loop since building this system so just looking for an opinion if thats a good CPU to go to, best power for the money, etc.

Also clueless on what motherboard to get. Just want something with Lots of USB ports and lots of SATA ports.

Right now running 4 internal drives and 2 external eSATA (1 is using an actual eSATA port, the other has a wire running out the back of the case)
Would like to have some breathing room to add a couple more.
 
You can get boards with more SATA ports than 6 for Z97. Just "only" 6 are native Intel ports. Rest will be 3rd party controller.

ASRock's Z97 Extreme6 for example. But plenty of Z97 boards with 10 SATA.
