Upgrade advice wanted

😕

I presently have a P3V4X with a 600mhzEBP3 and 512 Ram, running windows ME and a 32mb Annialator Video Card. I have questioned upgrading to a 1 Ghz P3 using a slotket but their is uncertainty if this upgrade will work 100%. My next thought was give up the SDRAM and go for DDR and get a MB based on it. I have been looking at the EPOX and ASUS which i favor the ASUS do to its layout compared to the EPOX. So would i be better to go with the MB,CPU,RAM upgrade versus just upgrading the CPU? Or is the difference in increased performance going to be not that much such that either way I end up at the same crossroad? The cost would be $390 vs $150. Are there any reviews that give this similar scenario?

Thanks to the Anand Tech community for your assistance as always.

If you have no problem with selling off your old equipment I would go with the mobo/ ram upgrade as well. I think that some of the biggest gains computers make are in the motherboards. I started out trying to just upgrade the cpu's and ended up upgrading the mobo every 2 cpu upgrades or so. I wouldn't consider a slotkit myself.

🙂

So the complete upgrade route will offer better performance or bang for the buck then just keeping my existing and upgrading the cpu only?

Thanks again for any input.
