Upgrade advice needed

Is there anyone on the boards that has experience upgrading from the 8800 GTX to a GTX 280/260? At the moment my 8800 GTX plays most my games in their highest settings at the 1920x1200 resolution with a couple of exceptions, C&C 3 drops quite a bit when the action gets heavy, The Witcher really drops FPS in a couple of areas, and the Crysis demo averages around 24 FPS all high no AA. But there are a couple of new games coming where im going to want the smoothest experience possible. My question now to you is, was there any noticeable improvement going from the 8800 GTX to the GTX 2XX?

I did this exact upgrade at GTX 280 launch and am very pleased with the results. You'll see huge improvements in the games that need them at 1920. In games you hovered between 25-40FPS (WiC, Witcher, Mass Effect, NWN2) you'll typically see 50-60FPS and in games that were above 60FPS you'll be capped and able to enable 4xAA or higher. In both cases you'll be able to crank up any details you had lowered. With Crysis Bench Tool I get 40FPS in DX10, 44 in DX9 on High. With my G80 GTX I had to run High Textures and mostly Medium and could only get 30FPS or so. There's also quite a market for G80 GTX on Ebay.....so its really a no-brainer of an upgrade. If you want a better idea of how a particular game in the last 2 years or so performs let me know, I've got most of them.

What was the winning bid on your GTX Chiz, I know it was over 200 when I saw it.

$252.50 shipped. The new ones selling for $400+ really help I think. I had it BIN for $220 and would've been happy with $200.

That definitely sounds like an improvement that i can be happy with. I'm glad to hear that the G80 GTX is still going strong should make it easier for me to sell and upgrade. Thanks for your advice.

Oh forgot I did this compilation from reviews at launch. Another popular title that goes from chugging > great gameplay + all eye candy is Company of Heroes DX10.

Hehe well they changed some things around. Apparently "Buy It Now" closes much sooner now, maybe after 1 or 2 bids. I also wasn't able to set a Reserve from their simplified seller page. Basically that allows you to set a minimum price you're willing to sell for. Most of the stuff for specs and info you can just pull off EVGA's site or even someone else's listing. Otherwise its not too different from buying/selling over FS/FT, there's just less guilt attached and you don't have to set a sale price. Honestly I think some people just like buying off Ebay and enjoy the auction process.
