Upgrade ACER or Buy XBOX 360?

Hi i have a pretty simple question...
I have an entry level acer aspire m5640 system with the following specs:
1>E2180 OC'd @2.5GHz
2>Acer MCP73 MOBO with Nvidia nforce 630i/geforce 7100 chipset.
3>2 Gb RAM both running at 850MHz(667 originally)
4>7200 RPM 160 gig harddrive( enough for me)

Im looking to upgrade to hd 4850 to play recent games at playable fps but for that im gonna have to also upgrade the PSU(only 250W). Since it is an acer I wont be able to OC further than what i have accomplished(using ntune).
So, should i do this or just buy an xbox 360? Or save the same money for a nvidia ion netbook? Thanx ...Im kinda leaning towards the ion netbook ATM

It's not a simple question at all.
It's all about your own personal preferences.
But if you insist...

1. Remove coin from pocket.
2. Flip coin in air, allow it to fall to the floor.
3a. If the coin falls heads up, go for the 4850 upgrade
3b. If the coin falls tails up, buy the Xbox 360
4. Since coins don't have a third side, you'll have to drop the netbook option.

Sounds like XBox 360 is the way to go if you want to game and not spend a lot of money (sorta..? I won't comment on how much a rip-off Microsoft Marketplace and LIVE is.....)

My question wasn't simple?
Please do me a favour and read your 'answer' again.

In the literal sense, your question did have a simple construction. However, it's not simple to answer at all. How can someone else possibly know if you should get a console or upgrade your computer to make it game-capable? It's an entirely personal decision based on what type of gaming you prefer.

It would be like me asking a car forum if I should get a pickup truck or a sports car as my next vehicle, without telling them how I plan to use it or anything else about me.

Another thing, though... if you want to game, I'd also suggest bumping up your CPU to at least an E5200. It's a fairly cheap upgrade.

OK thanks for your suggestion. This is exactly what i want-suggestions.
I plan to use either the upgrade or the xbox to play games as stated in my first post.
I think an xbox is perfect for gaming at a lower price...

If the Xbox has games you would like to play, doesn't seem like a hard choice. There isn't any games on the Xbox360 that I'd like to play bad enough so I don't have it. See? Simple.

Your system, as is, is not that power hungry. Unless you have a higher end monitor, 1680x1050 or greater, get a cheaper 4830, 9600gt or 4680 which would use, 80w, 60w or 60w respectively.

Power

E5200 @ 2.5 = 50w
i630 = 20w
2g ddr2 = 5w
HD dvd fans =20w

~= 95w

So you easily have 100w to play with. A 4850 would use about 110w which may or may not be too much. At 200w you're running at 80% of you PSU's maxium. At 150w you're at 60%.

BTW I thought the aspire m5640 comes with a 300w PSU.

Thanks!
Yes even i read that it does but the low-end one with e2180 apparently(i saw myself lol) has a 250w of maximum output...Never gonna get an OEM again...Would prefer building my own system after i get enough cash...

Xbox:

$300 + $40/year Live + $60/game (new) or $30 (old or used) + $50-80 for wifi

- 720p screen with low framerate (often 30 fps)
+ play games on your TV
- with a controller only, no mouse + KB for you
+ lots of sports games & shooters

PC:

$100 or less for a decent card if you don't need the PSU. Done.

- no big TV
+ many more RPGs, some with user mods
+ strategy & tactics games
