I'd say with $150 get some RAM. You're not gonna be able to buy a good enough chip to make a major difference.

You could try selling your current RAM and get some PC3200 and a Mobile XP.

Also, if you get a DVD burner just drop your CD-RW or DVD-ROM and slap it in.

I'd probably upgrade the CPU. He can get a Sempron 3100+ for under that price (I think) which really works pretty good for gaming etc (check the Anandtech's guide to budget computer builds...I just saw it today) Of course, then he'd have to get a new mobo...so scratch that idea!!

I'd go for a better CPU though. Dunno if an Athlon XP-M will run in that mobo (anyone know?) but from the looks of it, that's your biggest setback at the moment (200 gigs of storage...yeah, ya don't need all that...unless you happen to have TONS of junk on your computer...)

So yeah, go with the CPU. If you can, throw a few bucks extra in and buy a s754 mobo and A64 CPU (which probably defeats the entire purpose of this post!!)

Dont get a sempron the only SCKT A processor worth getting right now is XP-M and OCing the hell out of it! I would sell your CPU and get Athlon XP-M along with a SLK-947U and a panaflo cooler. Then depending on how much you want to spend of that gift card (all right :p ?) sell your memory and get some Corsair Value or something in 3200.

Which XP-m you recommend? Semprons scare me anyway because everyone keeps refering to them as AMD Celerons, and the word celeron makes me pyshically ill :p

Generally this is true, but the 3100+ is actually pretty sweet. Runs Doom 3 faster than almost all P4's.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuch...oc.aspx?i=2149&p=7

BUT, it's built for a socket 754 motherboard, which you don't have. So I'd go with an Athlon XP-M like they say. I think 2500+'s are pretty nice for OCing, but I'm not sure. Never used one.
