Upgrade a Dell Notebook CPU

I was curious if anyone knew whether or not you can upgrade a dell laptops Processor and keep the warranty valid? I have a E1505 with a Core duo processor and want to move to a Core 2 Duo processor so that I can install Vista in the future.

It will require a bios update (if you have not already). You can run Vista now if you run the 32bit version. I assume you are wanting to go 64-bit.

The warranty is voided if you replace the processor since it is not considered a user-replaceable part.

so how are you sure that the core2 duo will be compatible with the socket and the laptop motherboard?

desktop core2 duo upgrades generally required an entire motherboard upgrade. I'm not sure for the core duo line from Intel.

The E1505 uses a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo. They are the same socket as the other Intel mobile chips (Socket-479), but they both use a different pin configuration from the Pentium M. Core 2 Duos can work in Core Duo machines, provided the BIOS provides support, which in the case of the E1505 is true.

Some desktops needed new motherboards because the voltage regulator was not up snuff and could not support Conroe.
