desktop core2 duo upgrades generally required an entire motherboard upgrade. I'm not sure for the core duo line from Intel.
The E1505 uses a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo. They are the same socket as the other Intel mobile chips (Socket-479), but they both use a different pin configuration from the Pentium M. Core 2 Duos can work in Core Duo machines, provided the BIOS provides support, which in the case of the E1505 is true.
Some desktops needed new motherboards because the voltage regulator was not up snuff and could not support Conroe.
