Upgrade 9600XT AGP to.......

I was in your same position. I'm upgrading from a 9600 Pro and was debating whether to hold onto it and wait for a whole new system.

I decided that I wanted to wait for Conroe for awhile since I want them to work out any kinks and for prices to come down. Then there's the whole DX10 thing - doesn't seem to make much sense to buy a high end graphics card at the moment. That and I'm poor (HA!).

I went ahead and went for the All-in-Wonder X800 XT 256MB AGP. I should have some fun playing around with the multimedia stuff and if nothing else, the remote looks like something that I'll be hanging onto for a long time. It really is a good deal and I'm pretty cheap when it comes to upgrading versus staying with what I have.

Heads up for other people (thanks to thefamoustraders) from another thread. I put the item in the cart X800 XT on ATI's website and then backed out and the "Reconsider leaving us" offer showed up on the right hand side of the page. I clicked the box and it took $5 off the price. There's that, free shipping, and if the trade in works I will be one happy camper!

I'm planning on picking up some ancient video card to trade in and then see what I can get for the 9600 Pro (still a great card for anyone currently running integrated video).

They say it went on on the 15th (day after I placed my order). They gave a link to the tracking page, which shows that billing info was actually received by UPS on the 16th. Expected delivery for tomorrow (18th). I'm psyched. If I get the rebate then this will end up being one of, if not THE best deals I've gotten on computer equipment.

It really has a big impact on holding off from upgrading to Conroe. I'll probably wait for Vista and DX10 before I build a new system.
