Upgrade 2x120 mm fans for my Tsunami Dream

Hi,

I am in general very satisfied with my Thermal Take, Tsunami Dream case ... except the noise from the 2 stock 120 mm fans. I have read multiple reviews recommending changing these and now it is time.

I am therefore looking for replacement alternatives to the installed fans that will reduce this noise level significantly.

The system is running with a ASUS K8N-SLI board (w. heat pipe) and a AMD 64 4000+ with stock fan. (I have tested various RPM settings on this and it does not influence the noise.) Focus is therefore the 120 mm's

What options would you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance

Checked the video card yet? Otherwise, go with Cooler Master, Nexus, Yate Loon, Scythe, etc.

Ditto on the video card, also PSU.

Low noise and airflow at 12v: Nexus or Akasa Amber
For undervolting: Sanyo Denki 120x38mm

Thanks for your prompt replies.

So the Nexus 120mm Real Silent Case Fan D12SL-12 is a viable option?

Cheers

I never use to notice case noise until now, I have Tt Armor VA8000BWS other than it weighing in at like 50 pounds fully loaded, the case is great for keeping it cool inside even makes the area around my desk a bit chilly, but as for the noise I notice it now too the case has 2x120mm Fans and 2x90mm fans, plus I have a Big Typhoon on my CPU which surprisingly doesnt omit alot of noise

$6 here: http://www.jab-tech.com/YATE-LOON-120mm-Case-Fan-D12SL-12-pr-3009.html

If shipping makes the cost the same, I'd rather support Jab-tech than CompUSA.

on my system currently the CPU fan is the loudest thing. the antec smartpower 2.0 is ultra silent since it has temperature controlled fans.

the 120mm fans i dont really even hear o_O. the 80mm on the side makes some noise but nothing worth complaining about.

zalman coolers are the most silent. i have the one on my videocard at its loudest settings and I have to stick my ear against the case to hear it.

Well, the specs are different, but maybe not worth 40% price increase. But if you want it now and there is a store local then it maybe a better option.

Yate Loons and Nexus probably have some of the quietest and best fans (since they are basically the same as Nexus fans are just rebaddged Yate Loons) so either one of those would be your best bet.

I belive that PTS has a blue LED Yate Loon if you want some "bling bling" :p

Well that is interesting information.

So the next question from a novice in the area is how do I undervolt it?
What voltage are these fans running on?
Or is the installation of a pot-meter the most flexible way to go?

i had the same problem too. Stupid LED Thermaltake were way too loud.

I fixed it by replacing all the 120mm fans with yate loom. Nexus is just rebag'd yate looms, so save yourself the extra money and just buy yate looms. :]

dude, everyone knows nexus is rebag'd yate looms. If you dont mind OEM packaging, and no grills, or screws, yate looms are the best bang for the buck period.

Most fans are standard 12V. A Zalman pass through connector (7V or 5V) is a quick and easy way to undervolt a fan: http://www.coolerguys.com/840556026174.html

I also was surprised to hear that Nexus fans are rebadged Yate Loons. However, looking on the Coolerguys website, it is interesting the 120mm Yate Loon and the Nexus both share the same model number: D12SL-12. All other vital stats (excluding the RPM) are exactly the same as well. The looks (except for color) are identical. Check it out:
