Updating w/ @bios....

Like I said, I got burned a few times when "Flash from Windows!" programs were first coming out and haven't gone back since (fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me ). Have you tried the method I listed? Here's the link to the USB key creator: http://software.lsoft.net/killdiskfloppysetup.exe . Be aware that it will load the KillDisk program on to the USB stick, which you can then promptly delete. Sometimes when you boot into DOS afterwards it'll ask you to reset the time etc., just hit ENTER through all of it.

Cool MrK6 thanks for the info. Im not ready yet to try a different strategy by flashing from DOS but if that is my last resort then i will read up on how to do that.

Could i not be formatting the USB correctly?

i read another thread about the DS3L and they also suggested a small flash drive so im going to go buy a 2gb and see if that helps instead of the 8gb.

Ok i successfully updated the Bios on my GA-P35-DS3L to F9 by using a 2gb flash drive. Thank you to MrK6 who told me to use a smaller flash drive.

Also i was able to get rid of Floppy B by selecting Drive A and changing [1.44M, 3.5"] to NONE.

Then when i went to flash the only option was Floppy A. After selecting Floppy A .. <DIR> appeared w/ my P35DS3L.F9 file underneath it. After that the flash went exactly like Mad Scientists Pictures.

The maximum possible size for a file on a FAT32 formatted flash drive is 4Gb, not the size of the flash drive. The size of his bios file is 1MB.

I've flashed my Gigabyte board with 8Gb and 16Gb FAT32 formatted flash drives.

Either his first flash drive was FUBAR, not formatted correctly, or the bios file not copied correctly.

Well the bios file was correct because its the same one thats been sitting on my desktop for a week or whatever. I just left it there, formatted the drive and kept doing a drag and drop of the same file onto my flash drive.

I also have pics above of how i formatted my flash so nothing change there. The 8gb flash drive also works perfectly in windows w/out any problems.

From the few references I've found about people having a similar problem as you did when using Q-Flash, IMO, Q-Flash on your MB does not like certain brands of flash drives.

Congrats on your persistence and finally getting your bios flashed.

Yeah, I had no idea why it works like that (especially based off of MadScientist's comments), but it does :awe:. In the end, glad you got it to work and next time you need to BIOS flash you shouldn't have anywhere near the headache :thumbsup:.

Glad it worked.
Recovering the bios on these and newer boards is not a fun process. Don't let that double bios stuff make you think it is an easy fix. A lot of the double bios boards store a copy of the bios on the hard drive, which does no good if the bios can't boot at all.

The only way to recover most boards with failed bios chips now is unsolder the chips , flash them and then solder them back. Been through it multiple times.

Yea im glad it worked also and i wont have to flash again luckily for awhile cuz i think this is the last bios for my board.
