Updating graphics drivers

Having some crash issues with HL2 (inc. DM and CS:S).. thinking drivers might possibly help this.

As in the topic, what's the best way to upgrade the drivers (using ATI Radeon 9800 Pro)? Install over the old ones? Uninstall old - install new? Something else?
 
Uninstall using add/remove programs (remove ATI display Driver)> reboot > Turn off (disable) your anti-virus and go to www.ati.com and dnld 4.12 Catalyst driver package > Delete ATI directory (driver/s) under C:/ program files > install 4.12 driver package> reboot> and tweak to your content 🙂
