Updates to Kinect Games

I've been trying to google around and find an answer to this but I'm kind of all over the board it seems.

I really would like to get a Kinect for my kids for Christmas (in fact I bought one already as Target had a few left in stock), but the bad news is my console is banned. (yes I'd be buying retail Kinect games etc, my unit is used and banned for the longest time though and I've never really cared until now).

My question I guess is do the games need updates (not the dash) themselves to function or fucntion properly? I'm getting mixed singnals on it.

Actually part of the reason the latest dash/system update was released was because it added kinect compatibility. So yes, you absolutely need the latest dash/system update to play it.

I think you mis-read.
Updating to the latest dash is no problem at all. MS makes those available via USB stick.

Its the actual GAME updates that I can't get. I'm wondering if the GAMES need updating too.
 
The games do not need it to work, but the new updates have made them much more responsive and I do not know if I'd recommend getting one when you can't update the games.
 
good news is you can get just the console itself cheap. I got a refurb unit / console only for $80 on ebay with shipping for a HDMI pro console. I am sure you could find comparable deals.

true. But it's just $80 more ya know? Plus I'm so leary of the older consoles models. I've gone through a bunch now with RRODs, E74 etc. I'm just sick of dealing with that all.
