4ns(250mhz) ram is rated to run faster than 5ns(200mhz) ram. i don't know why u keep thinking they will both o/c the same. rated doesn't mean gauranteed, but sapphires 250/200 is cheaper priced because they use slower ram.

Just get the Sapphire. PCI cards are very limited in supply and the two cards will be very close in performance..

Mloot only got his Visiontek 128MB 9100 to 291/263 DDR.

In this test of a Sapphire 128MB 9100 they managed to get the card to 290/261 DDR.

awhile back ago, newegg reviews for 8500lelele, (whatever), people were complaining that they got 250/200 from sapphire cards, expecting at least 250/230. it was a mixed bag. people were getting 250/250, 250/230/, 250/200 all from sapphire. their o/c results were abysmal for the 200 card. something like 250/220 at most. thats where i would put my money on rather than what a website reviewer was capable of reaching. but then it was an agp card. eh

you're right. Sapphire uses cheaper 5ns memory, rated for 200mhz. Visiontek uses 4ns. One should be able to theoretically overclock the Visiontek more b/c of this disparity.

Regarding the difference in clock speeds, it should be noted tht 64mb versions come clocked 250/230, and the 128mb versions come at 250/200. However, despite the 5ns, people are saying they can successfully (stable, no artifacts) reach 260/260+ i have seen several posts like this. I guess it just depends on each situation.

One thing that seems to be common among the more successful overclockers, is that they had reflashed the bios with a different manafacturers, such as visiontek, gigabyte, etc.

i guess the reason i'm a bit anal about this purchase is probably because it will be the last video card purchase for this machine, as it is just pci. i want to get the best i can get, short of the FX5600 which is $$$. It kind of sucks to not be able to enjoy newer cards when they are released.

thanks for the advice (everyone). i will wait and test the sapphire, and if i am not satisfied go and pickup the prepaid visiontek.
