updated with success: So I woke up this morning...

It feels like there is alot of pressure.. like it is clogged with wax or something.

This has never happened to me before, and there is nothing else wrong (no other sinus problems or anything).

The bad thing is that I have 8 hours of flights tomorrow morning to get home from a business trip. Is my head going to explode from the altitude change? What can I do to fix this before tomorrow morning?

update: just got back from the ER. They basically did the same thing I tried to do, but with great success instead of epic failure. I guess it helps when you can actually see what you are doing..

Also, they seemed to ignore every warning on the package while they did it:

They put 15-20 drops of debrox in instead of 5-10, they used extremely hot water instead of warm water, they stuck the syringe way the hell down into my ear canal, and they used a hell of alot of force to get it out.

It was a huge piece of hardened ear wax that was stuck down in there though. i doubt I would have ever gotten it out myself.

Get some ear drops to dissolve any possible ear wax accumulation.

I got some, and ive used them 3 times today (even though it says twice per day) All of them say it can take 4 days at 2x per day for them to work.

Before learning about the ear drops, I went to the doctor's once and he used a syringe with warm water to dislodge the wax. It was a big ass piece he removed too.

How did he get it out? Did it just fall out after squirting it with warm water from the syringe? Or do you try to suck it out using the syringe?

The constant flushing of warm water helped to soften then dislodge the wax. And what was used was similar to what Bootprint listed.

Happened to me once or twice. Went away after a day or so. It wasn't wax since I clean my ears out daily. If you are paranoid, go see a doctor now or the ER. If not, give it one day and then go see doctor.

Warm water and use this this gently.

umm... I'd just get a baby's ear/nose bulb. I'm not sure I'd use something that was for soldering, heh.

Also, you might have swimmers ear. Happen to me one day and freaked me out. After a few days, I determined it was not wax build up.

This happened to me a few weeks back, but that was due to bad sinusitis.

This has happened to me a few times. I tend to get sinus problems throughout the year. My method:

1) Get Debrox. You can pick it up anywhere.
2) Use it as directed. Use a bulb syringe with warm water to flush out the ear.

If that fails:

3) Use mineral oil in the ear. Get it in there and then go rinse.

If that fails:

4) Go pick up an "ototek loop." They have these at CVS, Walgreen's, etc. Use it to help dislodge some of the nastiness from the ear. If it's as bad as you say, you should get a lot. Just be careful.

5) Rinse with mineral oil again.

Thanks. I'll try with a syringe and see what happens. It isn't uncomfortable now, and normally i'd just go to a doctor, but i'm 2500 miles away from home and it's a saturday.

I'm just afraid of what's gonna happen when the airplane reaches 33000 feet.

I had this problem once. I ended up getting the wax cleaner and using it, but it didn't work. I was then like "Well shit" and went on with my life. After about 3 or 4 days my hearing came back in that ear.

I can usually get a lot of crud out with a mix of half water, half hydrogen peroxide and letting it bubble away in there for a while.

rather then wax, I would think you probably have fluid build up behind the ear. I know you said you had no sinus problems, but it is possible you dripped a bit that night. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

you're lucky you didn't get chronic otitis media
It's like having this liquid ear wax behind your eardrum, in which they need to surgically install a tube onto the eardrum to let it drain out.
