ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Records released by Florida wildlife officials say 240 nuisance alligators have been trapped on Walt Disney World property over the past decade.

On Wednesday, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials also said they're "confident" they've caught the alligator that killed 2-year-old Nebraska boy Lane Graves outside Disney's upscale Grand Floridian Resort last week.

The commission released the records after a public-records request from the Orlando Sentinel (http://*******/28RP99l ). The agency listed 15 alligators caught on Disney property from the beginning of this year through May. It didn't include the six trapped since the June 14 attack and it didn't specify where the gators were captured.

Last year, 16 gators were captured on Disney property. Statewide, 6,706 alligators were harvested in 2014, the most recent year reflected in the agency's statistics.

They just need to use ATOT jurors to get away scat free :'(

The poll's kind of inaccurate. A civil court negligence suit would probably involve assigning a percentage of blame to the involved parties.

Bla bla, not a lawyer, especially a Florida lawyer.

^Gator population in Florida is supposedly over 1 million. They definitely can be dangerous, but attacks, especially fatal ones, are relatively rare. More have died from lightning strikes in Florida over a single year than gator attacks over many years, IIRC.

You act like the video had a point. It did not. The problem of feeding gators is not the same problem. By not specifying a direct link, they vaguely implied one. You bought it. :colbert:

If the parents decide to sue, Disney looks to be in a world of trouble.

They aren't going to sue

The parents of a toddler killed by an alligator at Walt Disney World said Wednesday they do not plan to sue the resort.

Matt and Melissa Graves will focus on a charitable foundation to honor their son Lane and "the future health of our family," they said in a statement Wednesday issued by spokeswoman Sara Brady.

No comment if a settlement was received which makes me say there was a settlement. Disney also pledged to offer ling term care to help the family deal with the trauma.
Not saying that's a bad thing its the right thing for Disney to do for the family, Disney share holders and Disney itself.

Ya, my guess is that Disney jumped ahead and just gave them some hush money.

What was it, like 20 million visitors annually just to the Magic Kingdom? Give the family half a day's ticket sales, sign some non-disclosure agreements, all is well.

Disney just breathed a sigh of relief.

No, Disney already wrote them a giant check to make this go away without a trial. They had no way to win, the only play was to minimize damage and get this story off the news ASAP.

I would guess that it was waaaaaaaaaaayyy cheaper to just pay them even if they stood a chance in court -- not just legal fees but also bad PR causing lost business.

Just looked up ticket costs... It's $99 for kids for a 1-day pass to Magic Kingdom. Multiply that by the 20.5 million visitors in 2015, then add in all their other parks, Star Wars printing money, etc.

Not to mention Disney is a massive corporation. Even an 8 figure check wouldn't really do any damage to their corporate finances, esp. if they have insurance for strange accidents like this.

Well he disregard the sign. As a parent I would not bring my son and test the water knee deep if I know there is alligator in there. SMH

This again? Hasn't it been debunked that there was no sign warning of Gators plus regardless of signs he's on Disney's property with a reasonable expectation of safety.

I went on a business trip to a company in Florida. Their pond had a resident alligator in it.

Of course it's the PR. Disney has more lawyers than merchandise and they have a shit ton of merchandise. And maybe that army of lawyers could have won in court. But in winning, they would have lost untold millions because every single day that trial ran the news would be that if you go to Disney your kids die and then Disney refuses to take responsibility for it. Not only do the resorts look like death traps, Disney looks like bastards. WAYYYYY cheaper in the long run to write the check quickly and get it over with. Even if the check is 5 times the size of what a judgement against them would be it would still be stupid to fight it.

As a publically traded company, what would have to be reported to the SEC? Above what amount?
