--Updated--with pics--Female Black Labs Don't follow you indoors

Me and my wife got two labs over a year ago. Since we live in a place where fences aren't allowed, we have had to let htem stay inside, and take them for walks play time twice a day.

Before we got them, we researched on the internet whether to get male/female exp. since they were going to be inside. Well, our searches turned up the major point of having females inside is that they'll be less dependent, and will generally keep to their own (or so it said) once inside. We read this in multiple different places.

Well, those were lies from the pits of hell.

It's like Hansel and Gretel in the house. Wherever I am in the house...../cept for the bathroom as that's the torture chamber (where they get their weekly baths), give them about 2 minutes, and they'll be at my feet laying down.

I can't tell you how many times I've almost rolled over them with my chair in my computer room, or how many times I've nearly done an endo in the middle of the night b/c they're laying right at the side of the bed where I get out.

Just thought I'd share.

BTW. I love my dogs 🙂

No 56K if you dont' want to wait a week. Thumbnails are small but big pics are not.
Dogs and Evil creatures

Funny stuff calpha, another lesson that everything you read on the 'net isn't true 😉

I wish I could have a dog or even a cat, but my dad's birds wouldn't like it at all 😛

This weekend I was working in the backyard, and my wifes co-dependent dog followed me around all day. I swear I tripped over him 20 times.

lol. I push my Golden Retriever in good fun but he wont budge. He wants to get petted always so no matter what he'll end up sitting right in front of you.

IIRC, endo is a freestyle term 🙂

Pics of your dogs🙂

I sure wish we could have a dog but I refuse to tie one on a lease in town.

You won't let your dog have a rental agreement? What kind of monster are you? 😛

Our cat is the same way. No matter where I go, she's usually following me. What makes it even more fun is she's a black cat, so at night there's usually a feline obstacle course in the house.

no, it's something from my elementary days of bike tricks. You'd stick your front foot on the front tire of the bike and the back wheel would come up......that was the correct way to do it.

The first time I ever rode a 10-speed I was zooming along a road at ful tilt and came up to a sudden stop sign. I blanked and couldn't remember which brake to press....so I slammed the front one (left side), and did a complete endo (incorrect way to do it) as I dug my face into the pavement and my bike landed on top of me.

But they do follow me around except for outside where the taste of freedom is just too much to bear. No leashes = run like the wolves. At least they (somehow) learned to use only woods for bathroom sites, so they don't leave any presents in other peoples grass.

only time they leave the room is when it's bedtime. If me and my wife are talking and not sleeping...after about 5 minutes they'll get up (and literally let a big huff out) and go into the living room on the couch. They don't like noise when the lights are turned off.

On nights when I get "reassigned" to the couch....one of them has learned that when I fall asleep I sleep like a log. She'll find a spot on the couch to sleep on even if Christ himself came down and forbade her from doing it. If you ever do get dogs indoors....no matter how cute they are as puppies...dont' let them on the couch. Once you give them the privelage of sitting on it, they will never get off. Period.

Pics coming shortly--they're old but uploading now.

And yes. Two females. Sisters.

I honestly believe if one of htem dies that the other will die of sorrow. They cannot stand to be apart.

We have a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who is often like you describe -- her fur is made of glue that sticks to humans. As she's aged, she has improved somewhat, but she still usually wants to be where you are. The other night I was lifting weights, and she decided that it would be good time to lick my face when I was doing bench press with heavy weight. That was fun.

Love her to death, and we spoil the dickens out of her. I just wish everyone treated their dogs with equal adoration instead of the neglect we see all over the place. :|

laying at your feet isn't bad. leaving dogs outside is evil. once inside they don't lay around, they are crazy attention deprived nutz. kinda like leaving a kid chained outside, makes em go nutzo.

Not really. Some dogs prefer the outside (assuming that they have enough space and cover from the elements). Dogs have fur so they can manage in the winter as well.

Bah! Don't believe what you read on the net. Your dogs are beautiful. Enjoy them! My Flat-Coated retreiver (actually my wife's) won't let me alone either. Always under foot/tripping hazard. PICS. She's a "show" dog, but a family pet first.

dogs are pack animals by nature. you are the Alpha dog so they follow you around and hang out where you do.

I have never met a dog who would not follow it's owner,

Great pics by the way
Very cute dogs 🙂

Haha, same with my kitty. She's a rather large kitty, but I still run into her on occasion... 🙁 I wince whenever that happens. She always forgives me, though. 🙂

Thanks for all the compliments.

I really do love my dogs...

And I don't mind that tehy follow me around constantly either. I'm very thankful for being able to have them, even if they're primarily indoors for now.

nice dogs calpha!

we have two females a six year old yellow lab and and a one year old black lab. two definitely is better than one. they keep each other busy for the most part. can't say if the same age is any better or worse than different ages, or same sex vs. mix. we did have a chocolate male who was about the same age as our now six year old yellow female. had her since a pup, got him from a rescue shelter. our neighbor has the sister of our one year old. we are two houses apart. they will sit and cry at each other. when they are together they run each other ragged!
and yes, i get followed around all the time by the younger one. the older one only cares where i am come meal time.🙂

i remember reading a stroy about labs and how when you have company, they will position themselves in the middle of the crowd and proceed to lick themselves!

mine are great at laying across doorways, in the hall, and will stay still 99 times out of a 100 times you walk/run past/over them. the 100th time, they will send you sailing though...
