anyone else get a PM from livewarehousesales? I thought that was pretty cool that they registered here at AT to inform people. The message said:

we shipped out about 250 drives last night and we used the best shipping method avail. (shipping until 7:30 pm.)

Keep dropping baby! Down to $150 on pricewatch (without shipping). Some shady companies with the lowest prices....I'll wait until it drops a little more with some reputable companies, like livewarehouse.

I just tried a test burn using an Optorite recommended Maxell +RW disc and Nero froze after formatting the disc. Can anyone recommend a simple method of testing the drive for burning?

On my drive the eject button requires a slight upward movement while pushing in.

HD-burn disk burned fine. Burned 1.3 gigs of photos. As expected it isn't readable in my dvd-rom or apex set-top. Used a Fuji brand cd-r.

The drive is rated at 12X for reading. I tried ripping a disc and got 1X. Has anyone else tried ripping with this drive?

anybody know of a good place to buy media for this drive?
particularly good and cheap media?

i bought some 1x dvd-r's made by LD from pc club and those read fine in the optorite drive itself, but when i put it in other drives, they fail to read the discs entirely :(

someone please suggest some good dvdr+- sites to buy from and at a reasonable/great price.

much appreciated from a fellow optorite owner

I finally broke down and bought this. Wife and I talked about it, and came up with valid uses for this that makes it worth getting. Thanks for the heads up.

The customer reviews on Amazon say that Sonic MyDVD is a very poor piece of software. Is this consistent with people's experiences on this board?

Thanks!

I would guess that the software shipping with this would be bad. I just use Nero, and rarely use PrimoDVD. I don't see how this DVD burner won't be able to write PS2 games though. Just download them and burn right? I may be wrong, as I've only done it once (wink wink).

One user had posted over at the Optorite thread at CDRLabs.com that he was able to upgrade the firmware in a firewire enclosure. The folks at Optorite had stated that it would not work. Obviously you can try it and if it doesn't work you may have to plug in to an IDE connector long enough to be able to do it.
