Can you explain how to PM online? Do you fill out that form now and do they add it to your cart if approved? Or wait till Sunday then PM?

FYI if anyone is thinking of this you might consider...
If you got a Dell 15% coupon you can goto the Dell SB SP site and pick up a 4x DVD+R drive for $160ish + tax but today only.

Very nice price for this DVD+ burner after the PM to outpost. Are the two formats still about even on sales figures and support from the PC community? I still can't decide weather to get the DVD "+" or "-" technology. Yes, I now Sony makes a dual system but I don't want to pay that kind money right now for a DVD RW.

MysticMan1, what kind of DVD RW format do you use?

You can do the on-line PM before or after you make a purchase, it takes about 2 days before you receive a email notifying you if the PM was approve or not. If you order before you buy and they approve the PM they will ask you to send them, after you order, your order # so they can adjust your price.

The rebate is not on the web site yet, so I don't if you can buy now or wait until Sunday.

It is my understanding that DVD+R is the better media for movies because I think it is slightly more compatible with DVD players. On the other hand, DVD-R media is cheaper and will work in almost all DVD players anyways. Not really much of a difference when you get down to it. Those are my thoughts anyways...

I've been told that the HUGE difference is that if you are going to use re-writeable's, you can just keep adding to a +RW disc, but you have to keep redoing a -RW disc if you want to add to it. I don't know if this is true or not. I may be mistaken, but I think that a few newer burners out there also have both -RW and +RW technology, so you won't get stuck with a "Betamax" if the industry decides to go with one technology over the other.

DVD-R is the officially supported format by the DVD Forum, which is the group that controls the format, naming, and other aspects of DVD. DVD+RW alliance (a bunch of companies like HP, Dell, the movie industry etc.) support the DVD+RW format because they say that it is more effective for on-the-disc movie editing, etc. Right now, DVD-R is more compatible with DVD Players by a little bit. Search for it here: Text DVD-R media IS cheaper though, and depending on how much media you're getting at this point, media costs matter a lot. Bot have their ups and downs. Hope this helps.

I think the officemax people must be monitoring this thread. It's almost 11:00 pm so I'm trying to line all this stuff up and I see on their web site that "Sorry, This product is currently unavailable." I suppose that this changes how to do this deal because this was supposed to be an online deal, right?

OM posted that this is only available at their b&m's. Also coupons are only good for phone or fax or online orders. Sorry, dead :(. But on the other hand the 149 after rebate at outpost doesn't look too bad :).

Yep! it looks this deal is a nonstarter, OfficeMax removed the Verbatim DVD+RW/R Drive before the sale started, so it looks like a in store only item. That may be why there was no rebate form on their web site.

Ordered mine 5 minutes ago. Search for SKU# 20216641 (you won't find it by product lookup, you need to search by SKU #). Comes out to 239.99. It automatically takes off the $30 instant rebate and it shows it has a mfr rebate of $40.00.

Add something extra to go over $250 and use the $50 off of $250 on-line coupon. I just filled in my PM request and hoping to get an answer soon. Else, I might just take a drive down to the local store.

Thanks Mysticman for the info!

I just wanted to let you guys see the aftermath of my PM request. It's a failure btw :( I used the 50 off 250 coupon. If you don't, you might do a bit better since they would approve the PM.

Dear OfficeMax.com Customer,

Thank you for your recent inquiry. Unfortunately I am unable to process
your request because with the $50.00 OfficeMax.com coupon used on your order
for the , makes the competitors price higher then the OfficeMax.com.
I apologize for any inconvenience this has been for you. Thank you for your
interest in OfficeMax.com.

Competitor's price: $179.99
Competitor's next day delivery: $11.48
Competitor's total price: $191.47

OfficeMax.com price: $239.99
OfficeMax.com next day delivery: $00.00
OfficeMax.com total price: $239.99

OfficeMax.com Coupon: $50.00

Final price: $189.99

btw, does anyone have the right rebate for this? Say, an scanned in-store rebate? The one on the website is for a Cendyne DVD-R/RW :(

This maybe a hot deal yet. Order came to $223.43 after adding DVD media and applying the $50 off $250. Applied for the price match to outpost.com (instock) but cannot find the rebate. It was listed at checkout but a click led to nothing. Anybody got the $40 rebate? Maybe on the Verbatim web site?

Sorry, I didn't see canfraggle's first post about no price match. Still looks like outpost @ $149 at this point. Fork me! I really want a cheap burner but I guess it's time to cancel this order and wait for a "hot deal"
HF

Tried to do away with the 50 off 250 deal. Called om csr and was told that the only price match they did was with Office Depot and Staples. So I guess the pm's a no-go.
I've cancelled my order and will go with the outpost.com deal when and if they change the rebate date. As of now the cut-off date for the rebate was 04-01-03 so that $179 is the bottom line at this time.

HocusFocus & canfraggle

What's why when I posted this deal I posted it using a $30 off $150 coupon instead of a $50 off $250 coupon. If you have already ordered you can return it to a store and reorder using the $30 off $150 coupon.
I don't know if that CenDyne rebate they have on the Verbatim 2.5X DVD+RW/R Drive page will be honored by RebateHQ.com.

I will post another way to buy the Verbatim 2.5X DVD+RW/R Drive later, but don't pay $150 or more for this drive.

nice price.. too bad its a +R drive. I have a -r now and I love it. I have never even used a DVD-RW, so the 'feature' of being able to easily do multisession is lost on me.
