OK the kids/wifes 300 celeron is too slow now a days, (and I want a pc to play with BSD)
its for kids games (they are 4 and 6) web and email

heres what Im thinking of
1)a small book PC like this one
if so id look at either a 1.2 celeron or about a 1.0 P3. Which one?
Id still have to add ram and a hard drive

2) should I just go and build a regular PC?
if so what chipset, KT333?

discuss...

EDIT:
OK The only thing I need to know is where can I find a low profile cooler for a durn that would fit in a net PC from MSI
this onehttp://www.msicomputer.com./product/netpc/Slim6218.htm

mcveigh,

The Celly will be more than enough for the kids. I just built one for my son based on the 1.2GHz Duron and even I could use that in a pinch 🙂

Probably the cheapest would be the KT266a chipset, if you plan on totally building one

Thanks, I want cheap and small, space is a concern.
I was thinking of one of the amd book pcs but Im worried about the heat

bump

question, I can get similar small pc's

which would be better?

950 duron with sdram
or
1.3 celeron with sdram?

I'd prefer a faster duron but can't find and small pc's to support it

:disgust:

I tell ya, if you're serious about that Gigabyte example, after you get the CPU and
memory, you might just as well get a 1.2ghz celeron EMachine (about $399 after
rebate). It's not too large either............Greg

yeah I though about it but I want something really, really small! 😉

I can get the el cheapo msi book pc for 140 + cpu (40)+ ram (50) + hd (60)= 290

MSI Hera (MS-6218 6218-010) KLE133+686B SLIM PC,

That looks nice and small, just up your alley. I am partial to AMD myself, but the celeron will be more than enough for that BARNEY game 🙂

actually the amd soultion is cheaper!...so close to ordering.

but which is faster 1.2 celery or 950 duron? i'm thinking celeron...

Allright
I can get the MSI hera from new egg for 140 plus 40 for a 950 duron or more for a 1.x tbird

2 concerns,
cooling an AMD processor in such a small space.
where can I find an amr modem or half height pci modem for it?

I would go with a 1.0a Celly. You can find cheap pc100 ram and the computer would be pretty decent, i'm selling a 1.1a in the forum, if your interested pm me.

Celeron 1.Xa is a P3 on a 100mhz fsb and .13 fab

If children will be using it, I would get an LCD before anything.

CRT's will make youngsters radioactive and blind.

Plus an lcd will save you space.

15" lcd ~$200.

Extremely wise investment.
