Alrighty.

Matthias99 -

CRT's have much higher refresh rates than LCD's. And a constantly backlight CRT, which is impossible, would be like an LCD only cleaner, so why would you get tired of looking.

Pete -

Refresh Rate and Frame Rate are different things, but they have a relation - how many times per second they refresh. I'm just using the refresh rate to easier explain my position on the smoothness of the frame rate. So I am not wrong in using both, because they have a relation. Apple and Oranges still grow from the sam Earth.

Vsync is available on all cards as opposed to triple buffering.

I hate the 24fps. I don't think it has a refresh rate. It is just a light. A light is constantly on at 3x10 to the power 8 mps. Anyway, whatever it is, it is choppy and annoys me.

The picture looks better with Vsync on. I don't know how much toll it takes on performance, but it doesnt' seem to be as much as you mentioned. Read my number 3.

Ok, I can't add anything constructive, but maybe I can get some help here.....

I am now playing Q3TA with vsync on because the quality is much much better -- 80Hz (which as you know, locks my fps to that number even though I think I see the number 75 more than my eye catches the 80 when I have com_drawfps 1, which simply means enabling the fps counter in the upper right of the screen). There is a certain section in one of my favorite maps where I take a hit in fps and it is more than noticable. It goes from 75ish to 60ish and it reveals itself as choppiness.

Anyway, I was wondering about triple buffering. I can enable it for the card (9800np) but it doesn't seem to stick, i.e., every time I "enable" it will go back to "disable".

1. What can be done to make it stay?
2. Will enabling this help with the dips in fps that vsync causes (note that this is not a huge dip, but still one that affects smoothness of gameplay).

Why do we need a second thread for this?

I just read in a Doom3 update that Doom3 will be locked at 60FPS max...
More likely it'll be like com_maxFPS in Quake III and be set to a default of 60. Of course I'd expect that you can change/disable it.
