Hmmm, very tempting to upgrade! Anyone with experience with 22mbps? Does it perform twice as fast in real life?

I don't understand. There is another thread for an SMC wireless router for $49.99 (after MIR) and it says it can do 22 Mbps. So whats so special about this one?

The rebate form link on techdepot's site is broken. The deal still seems valid-- does anybody have the real link into their site for the .pdf, or a copy of it they can mirror?

Can't find many reviews of this unit. I can't tell if this is the newer or older model. There are two people on amazon.com complaining about compatibility with Alcatel DSL modems, for what that's worth.

Relevance? Good luck routing an Internet connection with an access point.

This router uses the TI ACX100 chipset, making it very similar to the DI 614+.
According to this review of the DI-614+, the ACX100 chipset can effectively double the throughput and also increases the throughput of existing 11mbps devices.

It might be time to upgrade!

Relevance? These little cheapy boxes do well enough for home users. Just because you don't route BGP on them doesn't mean they don't bridge or route.

Hi,

Does anyone know how much better the SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) feature of this router is? I have a DLink DI-614+ which doesn't mention SPI. I guess with SPI, the firewall is superior. Any thoughts?

I had that dlink also.. it was okay but the firmware sux.. too many people on, it dies.

Im getting this one because i ditch the dlink. You can't really tell the 22, most of the time it looks the same, only when you transfer 100 megs of file.

website says new.. hard to tell, SPI routers are fairly new to the market

spi just uses access list to filter out traffic.. stuff cisco been using for long time..

As I understand it, statefull firewalls keep track of your requests to the internet and only let those hosts reply to you on your source ports, it keeps track of your TCP/UDP conversations. Probably has some default timeouts that you can't change. In the event of no reply and the timeout value is hit, that stateful table entry is removed. Stateful is good.

It also looks like it has MAC address filtering (on the wireless side only posibly) this is also a potential deterant from script kiddie neighbors. Won't really stop someone who knows what they're doing and overwriting their BIA with your MAC addy when your not using you wireless device.

this is a new model, run great and easy to set-up.
My only problem with it is sometimes it needed to be reseted, not often tho, just once awhile. Well at least it ain't hard to do :)

I got this from Amazon when it was $80 ($99 - $20 rebate) and came with a free Logitech ClickSmart.

It's a great router, great signal, easy to configure.

The only caveat is that it only has three wired ports, so if you need a lot, keep that in mind.

You will only get the "double" speed if you use SMC 11/22 cards. I use Dlink 650 cards and they work fine, but only at 11M.

At the current price $49, I'd be all over this deal if I didn't already have one.

BTW, anyone else think that the next gen wireless products are coming out soon (hence the sudden rush of discounts on the old stuff).

That might be worth a lot to me. I was seriously thinking about ordering this router but will first have a look at those reviews if I can find them. I have an Alcatel 1000 DSL modem (a few years now). Thanks.
