NEW DEAL!

Samsung 830 256GB for $335FS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...1712-_-EMC-021712-Index-_-SSD-_-20147135-L02B

Must use code: EMCNHJC34, good through 2/20.

----------------------------------------

Deal is dead. Now up to $360 - still a good deal, but not a hot deal.

Hot deal! The forum favorite Samsung drive is on sale - and this time it's the 256GB verion.

$340 after code: EMCNHNH42

Considered the best combination of speed and reliability.

Why must you continue to tempt me with these awesome deals 😛

Found a similar deal for this drive (I have to pay tax at the egg): http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...&AID=10659349&PID=1727683&is=REG&A=details&Q=

Samsung 256GB 830 Series SSD with Internal Laptop Kit and Norton Ghost 15 for $349 expiring 2/11/12.
Forget norton ghost, but this is cheaper than the deal at new egg because of the tax. Of course, most people don't have to pay tax there and it would be the better deal.

Really like those Samsung SSD drives. I always go through ebates for Newegg purchases.

No rebate needed, it's an instant $20 off if you are signed up for Newegg's email blast.

Nice find Termie, this will be the data drive to go with the Intel 320 80GB OS drive I ordered yesterday.

Curse you Hot Deals, you're forcing me to build my new gaming PC sooner than I'd planned to -- now I need to pick the case and order the rest of it.

He meant to use: http://www.ebates.com/

You get an extra 1.3% off (not much, but it's free to join).

Enjoy the drive!

So for the complete SSD tard, this drive is good? I could go spend a couple hours reading up on TRIM, NAND, blah, blah or you people could chime in. I thought the Intel's were the king on the block SSD-wise?

They're a top down SSD maker and the last couple of gen drives have been solid. They make a drive toolbox similar to the Intel one too.

Good deal, ping me when the 512GB is on-sale though. Want to make the jump from my 160GB Intel G2 from 2009 to a ~500GB drive.

I bought this drive when it was on sale for $349.99. It has been a rock steady performer with zero issues. Money well spent.

How does the Samsung 830 firmware upgrades work? In the past when I looked, it appears you lose data when you upgrade the firmware.

it notifies me via SSD magician and installs in windows. I have gone through two updates without any data issue.

If it were a choice between the Samsung 240/256GB 830 model, and the Plextor 256GB M3 model (toggle nand, Marvell controller), which would it be? Both are around $330 after discounts.

I have the Samsung 830 256GB and love it. However, my pick would be the SSD with the best warranty and lowest access time or the Plextor. If you want to take a chance on Sandforce, then the Chronos Deluxe looks mighty tasty at its lower pricepoint.

It's tempting. Good pick now, or is there a better one or coming soon you think?

Personally, I'm waiting for SSD to come down to less than 1$/GB.

IMO, it's still a luxury item. The exception to this is if you can use it to prevent the purchase of an entire new machine (my friend is very happy I had him buy a Crucial M4 for his 2008 MacBook Pro, rather than drop over $1K).

Depends on where you're using it.

I like Samsung's reliability and have an earlier model in a desktop. I wanted the 256GB Samsung 830 for a netbook. After discovering its relatively large power consumption I went for a Kingston HyperX instead. I would have gone with the Samsung for a desktop though.
