UPDATED: PS3 60GB deal @ BJ's - hot?

BJ's near me has the PS3 60GB with a game (Motor Storm?) and extra controller for $580. Is it worth paying this much to get the older 60GB version and have the onboard PS2 chip? I'm reading conflicting reports about continued PS2 compatibility.

EDIT: Went today and there's an instant $100 coupon. Went to the BJ's in South Attleboro, MA.

Thanks. You're probably right. But note that I would also like the PS3 for its Blu-Ray abilities. My daughter is the one who'd like it for PS2 abilities. We have an Xbox, Xbox 360 Elite, and a Wii. So I'm not nuts about getting a PS2. But if I thought the PS3 was a good deal I'd consider it. The 5 free movies almost helps, but I really don't care for any of them. 1 or 2 are OK, but nothing I'd ever pay to own, or even rent.

This is a pretty good deal considering the 60GB PS3 was $600 when introduced and this one is including the extra controller and a game. Good if you want the full features of the original PS3.

Get the 40gb PS3 for $319 with the K-Mart coupon, then buy a slim PS2. $450 > $580!

Hmm, I'd rather have compatibility for most PS2 titles, than have a PS2 & PS3 + all those extra wires and controllers.

I bought the 60GB specifically because of the built-in Emotion and graphics chips from the PS2. I would say if BC is big on your list, I would definitely grab the 60GB model while you can.

The K-Mart deal applies to the 60GB version also, so that would be 20% off 500 = 400$ if you have a K-Mart in your area and the manager takes the coupon.

Thanks folks. I'm leaning towards getting this deal. As to the PS3 40GB, I've read it didn't just shed PS2 compatibility, but that it shed other stuff as well, though I can't remember what. I'll post if I find the review/article.

K-Mart coupon?

K-Mart's website says it's in stock, but then when I hit add to cart it says it can't process the request. Me thinks maybe they aren't actually in stock anymore. I wonder if the stores are stocking them.

40GB has no BC, no media card readers, and only 2 USB ports. Still has Wifi. No one I know uses the card readers anyway and if you're going to have four controllers you might as well get the Nyko charge station or a USB hub.

As far as K-Mart goes, call them up and see if they have any in stock. I don't think the 20% off coupon applies to online purchases. I just got a 40GB model for $319 plus tax locally, so it definitely works (they had to punch in the numbers manually though).

i thought the advantage of the hardware ps2 backwards compatibility was that it was fully (100%) backwards compatible?

Does anyone know what the PS3 comes with and does it include the MIR for the 5 free blu rays?
If you look at the PDF for the free movies all PS3's are valid, there's no distinction. The only problem, the movies pretty much stink (almost used a more grown-up word). None of the K-Marts near me have 60GB models in stock, the 2 BJ's I went to both have 'em.

Bump for update. This deal is now $480 if you can find one. They had several left when I purchased mine earlier this evening. I was told other area BJ's should have the same deal.

The Misses didn't want me to pull the trigger when it was $100 more. She might be OK with it now. Does anybody out there know of any better deal?
