Hey everyone -

So I have a 4 man game of Risk tonight. It has been quite a while since I have played. Does anyone have any strategies or tips i need to be aware of?

I must win.

Update:

8 Hour game. And we called it a stalemate.. for now.. took digi photos and all to reset it up later.

3:00am was as late as us working folk could go..
 
Here's the best way to win.

1. Go to the place you're playing with a 6 pack of beer (cheap beer)
2. Throw the cans at everyone playing
3. Tell them the following statement. "I win because I just knocked all of you out. Now I'm going to go have some FUN!"
4. Go out drinking and talking to women/men who aren't playing risk
5. You win.

This is the best strategy.

I generally favor the S. America strategy. However, if the countries are distributed at random, this might not be feasable. Australia is a good backup strategy if you have a foothold there. People tend to leave you alolne and let you get away with the bonus armies.

Going for Asia first thing is a bad strategy, unless no one else wants it. It's too hard to defend. Save it for last.

one by one placement of armies
roll die to see who goes first and continue to the left until every country has 1 army
then everyone places the rest of their armies how they want

Random draw is the best IMHO

I wanted to quote this one too... but all I could remember correctly was "I AM FROM THE URKRAINE... THE UKRAINE IS NOT WEAK...."

Then he says something else and smashes the board.. are you sure its "I will smash your board!!!" ?


 
i'd say bide your time and let the other three duke it out as long as you can. create a massive army and send it to one section. then taunt opposing players to try and beat you.
 
Risk isn't a whole lot of skill, just rolls of the dice. If you want skill, try Diplomacy or Axis and Allies.
 
Attempt for control a continent w/ minimum interfaces[Australia (1), S America(2), N America(3)]

Never attempt initially to start a two front attack.

Once you control a continent, then expand into the next door country from your continent and build up your armies. (Create a beachhead).

Expand your beachheads slowly, always keeping reserves on your own continent beachheads.

If you can make small sacrifical lightnig thrusts between Asia/Europe and Africa, it can weaken the opponent.
 
Apparently I must repeat the best strategy again...

The best way to win is not to play at all. Playing is automatic failure and you'll never get laid again...or maybe not again for you...maybe it's just you'll never get laid in the first place.

NEWMAN: I'm not beaten yet. I still have armies in the Ukraine.

(This comment perks up the ears of what appears to be a Russian immigrant.)

KRAMER: Ha ha, the Ukraine. Do you know what the Ukraine is? It's a sitting duck. A road apple, Newman. The Ukraine is weak. It's feeble. I think it's time to put the hurt on the Ukraine.

UKRAINIAN: I come from Ukraine. You not say Ukraine weak.

KRAMER: Yeah, well we're playing a game here, pal.

UKRAINIAN: Ukraine is game to you?! Howbout I take your little board and smash it!!

(The Ukrainian pounds the game board, destroying it and sending army pieces flying.)
