Of course, its my personal computer. Up until a few weeks ago, I had 4 computers networked on a phoneline network using Netgear PA-301 cards. A few weeks ago, suddenly, my computer stopped using the network at night. Now, it doesnt network at all. No Internet sharing, no file sharing, no nothing. I usually use Sygate, I tried Wingate, and I tried running without either. I tried reformatting both computers, and I tried switching out network cards. Any help/advice?

i really could use some, I have no idea what the problem could be.

Since you blasted all software away it has to be a setting in your CMOS that got crossed up. Just go in the settings and tell it to reset configuration. It must have locked out the IRQ needed for your NICs at some point. It will be back.

Tried that on both computers - nothing doing. Also, I connected the two computers directly to one another, not through the house's phone lines, and they still can;t see each other. The weird part that I just noticed, however, is that the two have their "connected" lights lit on the NIC's, and XP is saying that it is connected to the network - just that no packets are coming in, only out. Ugh. Any more suggestions?

*edited*--saw my question in you orginal post..

When you used a cable to connect your 2 cables, did you use a cross over cable or do it through the hub?

You said it's a phoneline network, have you tried to plug the computers into different phone outlets? Have you tried phones in both outlets to make sure that they still work?

Well, it doesnt need a dialtone to work - and connecting the two with a phone cord would have tested to make sure the prob was not just bad cabling. Thanks for all your replies.

OK, here's an update. I disabled the floppy drive controller on my mobo and now my computer is getting an IP address (a correct one) assigned by DHCP, and Sygate is saying I'm on the network, although it still can;t see any other comps or connect to the internet.

this may be a long shot. but does anyone think that this could be an IRQ conflict??

Anyway, I'm gonna test with a different motherboard. I'll let you know if anything changes.
