Has anyone seen any review yet for the NEC? I am ready to buy the Benq but due to me having the 1300a and 1100a I would like to give NEC first dibs again?

If you are satisfy with your current NEC drives there's on reason to think that the NEC ND-2500 performance wouldn't be the same. If you buy one you can give us your first hand review.

Last time I checked this forum is for posting Hot Deals.
I mean really, who gives a rats ass what you paid for something in the past and what does that have to do with Hot Deals.

Livewarehouse.com also has this drive for $138. I recommend this place as I had no problems buying a dvdrw drive from em

Now that it has been announced that the Benq will not be firmware upgradable to the new dual layer technology, I will bite on the NEC. Will let this thread know next week when it arrives as to my experiences.

No idea. What I meant was that Benq was supposed to be firmware upgradable to the dual layer, but they have come out and said it is not possible now.

The Benq sounds great from the reviews.

I read in the last few days that Sony is not going to make DVD burners anymore.

Am I dreaming?? That isn't good news for firmware updates I'd think.

Holy sh!t, I was about to go and pick up a Plextor 708A for ~$250 at Best Buy right after Christmas, and just saw the NEW NEC 8X -+R drive for $139 at MWAve.com! Now I don't know if I'm going to jump on the NEC or wait for the Pioneer. I'd like to have 40X CD-R burning capabilities, so the Pioneer might be the burner. Although DVD-R9 burners are around the corner....hmm.....decisions, decisions....

I wonder what the prices may be of the new DVD-R9 burners? Anyone know yet?

i'm pondering the nec 2500 black from ewiz for 135 shipped (no software). seems that as long as you don't buy more than a few items from them, they do alright. i'm still in the pondering stage, however, as I bought an OM iomagic ~optorite 8x. The quality reviews on it (the optorite) have been slightly shady, however.

Hey everyone,
I was going to buy a Plextor 708A, but after looking at this thread I think I'll go with the NEC drive. For $213.54 I can get this drive and a 50 pack of media shipping overnight from MWAVE. The media is RITEK 4XDVD-RC 50-PK - I know absolutely nothing about DVD media at this point, but I've used Ritek media in the past with my CD drives with great success. Is this likely to burn at 8X?

If this works out I'll spend as much for this drive and a 50 pack of media as I would have for just the plextor drive. I've always used plextor products but brand loyalty can only go so far.

Thanks,
-Jeff

Wait a while, as more stores get the NEC ND-2500 in stock more stores will be on the list.

No, you're not dreaming, I too read an article on this topic. Sony is going with one of the Taiwanese OEMs in order to cut costs, and the word is that Lite-On will end up being their supplier.
