If you are satisfy with your current NEC drives there's on reason to think that the NEC ND-2500 performance wouldn't be the same. If you buy one you can give us your first hand review.Originally posted by: Sepen
Has anyone seen any review yet for the NEC? I am ready to buy the Benq but due to me having the 1300a and 1100a I would like to give NEC first dibs again?

Is the NEC capable of being upgraded to dual layer or are you just hoping?

Holy sh!t, I was about to go and pick up a Plextor 708A for ~$250 at Best Buy right after Christmas, and just saw the NEW NEC 8X -+R drive for $139 at MWAve.com! Now I don't know if I'm going to jump on the NEC or wait for the Pioneer. I'd like to have 40X CD-R burning capabilities, so the Pioneer might be the burner. Although DVD-R9 burners are around the corner....hmm.....decisions, decisions....

Wait a while, as more stores get the NEC ND-2500 in stock more stores will be on the list.Originally posted by: dukdukgoos
Why are all the places selling this drive in California?!? I need an out of state place to avoid CA sales tax...
No, you're not dreaming, I too read an article on this topic. Sony is going with one of the Taiwanese OEMs in order to cut costs, and the word is that Lite-On will end up being their supplier.I read in the last few days that Sony is not going to make DVD burners anymore.
Am I dreaming?? That isn't good news for firmware updates I'd think.

Hey everyone,
I was going to buy a Plextor 708A, but after looking at this thread I think I'll go with the NEC drive. For $213.54 I can get this drive and a 50 pack of media shipping overnight from MWAVE. The media is RITEK 4XDVD-RC 50-PK - I know absolutely nothing about DVD media at this point, but I've used Ritek media in the past with my CD drives with great success. Is this likely to burn at 8X?
