it's funny how the average american thinks he knows music. some of the posts in this thread show real ignorance or the standard american anything except from a label stinks attitude.

i've had graduates from Juliard that specialized in vocals want to sing duets with me. a friend of mine sings for the NY city opera and he thinks i sing exceedingly well and yet, average joe down the street wants to tell me that i shouldn't give up my day job (as if i ever intended to).

seriously, you sing well.

i agree with some of the earlier constructive criticism tho, give up the accent. 🙂

damn, thats bad.

i remember you posted one of you singing to switchfoot's "i dare you to move"...and that sucked just as much.

You can't sing paulson, sorry.

ok, it wasn't your accent, you just have a real "Country" style to your singing.

i guess a lot of people here just don't like that "country" aspect of your voice.

btw, i'm sure your GF will love it.

Hey Blake, not bad for raw and no voice training.

Seriously can only get better. Listen to early Alan Jackson (as bad as William Hung).

You're well on your way.

Yes, first version was better.

You need to find your natural "style". Like I said it took Alan Jackson quite a while.

Just started the song...so far, not bad! You definitely have a slight accent, but it's not a big deal. You seem to sing through your nose a bit...it'll give you a fuller sound if you try to avoid that. You're hitting your notes, and it's safely within your range...and it helps that I love this song. 😉

Good start! You could benefit from a few vocal lessons, teaching you some basics...you certainly have more to work with than most people. One of the first things you can try though, is to google a few breathing exercises, as you do trail off a bit if you haven't taken a breath in a while.

One last thing...when you hit the lift on the end of "part" (til death do us part), you're forcing it, since you're running out of air. At the end of "for better or worse" and before "til death do us part", take a quick breath, but don't gasp into the mic. But if it's just because the note is slightly outside of your range...just work at it.

Good luck with the lady!

I like the second version much better. You started out shaky at first but definitely much better!

Great job and good luck! 🙂

Not bad at all! Good job there. I'm a singer myself.

Now, if only you get a quarter to do the chorus that would way awesome.

You have a fine voice. That being said, you sound absolutely nothing like JMM, and particularly when singing one of his best-known songs it makes your voice stand out a bit. My ears kept on trying to turn your voice into JMM's (or the band that did the R&B cover of it) and it just didn't work. Again, that doesn't mean you did a bad job of it, or that your voice isn't good, it's just not right for that song... the song just carries too much baggage for you to overcome.

That being said, you would sound absolutely terrific doing a song from someone like Chad Brock. You'd be a dead ringer if you sang his song Ordinary Life.

A Minnesotan shouldn't try and sing with a fake accent. Try doing the origianl All-4-One's version

Not that bad, but not great either...

Paulson,
I would have picked a different song to sing to, but at least you sound a lot better than Deeko did when he tried to be in a boy band and shared his musical talent.

Just when I started to like and respect you Paulson, you go and pull crap like this 😛
