I get to have an excellent test of DirecTV service tonight.

High winds, and heavy rains, but no problems yet! :)

Btw, my tivo has Digital Audio, and component output. too bad no HD :(

Just to stick my 2c in. I ordered from Expert after MBoy's original post. Installs inc sent a good installer who worked for many hours to get this up. The only thing i didn't like was how he drilled a hole through my outside wall to run a wire, but since I wasn't going to do it, i let him.

Otherwise, the service is great! I am so happy to have left comcast, i even switched to DSL just to be free of them. The signal is much better than the digital signal. I am now paying less for 4 rooms and Tivo than one room with one box!

BTW, when you sign up for DTV you can buy a protection plan if you are worried about the eqpmt.

Edited to add: With the Tivo I can now watch Howard Stern without staying up, hehe.

Yea, they had to drill through my wall too, but thats what they did originally when they built my house. lucky for me it was in my unfinished basement and i had bricks. They caulked it though.

Today i recieved a phone call from Bryan to verify i had no problems and to remind me about the rebates! i will give him a call tomorrow and commend him on the customer service.

I have a feeling that if the poster who said he used to work from ES either was a disgruntled employee, faking it, or they made some serious changes after he left!

Jagg, i wish i could leave comcast for good, but DSL isn't in my area (guess they didn't think they could penetrate the comcast stranglehold) and dsl speeds are SLOW compared to my comcast! and so that i don't get charged $65 for internet alone ( and to get local DC stations), i will keep the most basic comcast service available, $11.

Just to let everyone know, the information that was lost in my original DirecTV thread a few weeks ago can now be found at www.iwantdirectv.com. There are pricing breakdowns for both hardware and programming of DirecTV for new customers.

Thanks,

Today was the first time i hda problems with my satellite. at 6:00 AM, the signal broke up due to snow build up on the dish. i had to go outside and broom it off.

also, maybe once a day i get a split second of digital break up which doesn't bother me. i'm thinking of getting a canopy to prevent snow/ice buildup. that's what really worries me, the ice buildup.

i'm thinking of pouring hot water on the dish if that happens. still, it's better than comcast

I ordered the 5 room setup from expert satellite a few weeks ago. Anybody can get their best deal WITHOUT a referal number, it just is a way for you to make a fast $50.00 to 80.00 bucks if you can get someone to use your number. This is what makes this country so great. You can use up to 4 rooms with the basic dish, but to add local you need the triple lnb dish. You must activate all the free equipment with a minimum package for 1 year. After that you can cancel any of the additional ones. The nice thing is that you can call and modify your packages and it's instantly done, none of these 2 week all day appointments that you get from comcrap. In my opinion directv is worth more money a month than cable. The reception is that much better. I installed it all myself. No big deal. The free installation is for basic only. Read the fine print.

The funny thing is that I stated this in my original thread a few weeks back and it still got deleted by the moderators. Go figure.

No, you won't be considered a new user! I know because I didn't have service with them for over 2 years and just last month signed up with them again. I did contact Directv directly though and got a good deal after some haggling with the retentions people. The regular CSR couldn't give me what I wanted. I still had my 2 older receivers that worked good but they gave me FREE installation, another FREE receiver, a triple LNB dish, 6 months free Showtime, and 6 months of HBO for $1.99. Not as good a deal as a NEW customer but I was very happy with it since it didn't cost me anything.

My understanding is that they use 2 or 3 out of 4 criteria to determine if you are a new user.
1. Name
2. Address
3. Phone Number
4. Credit Card

If can/have changed most of these since you were a previous customer than I'd say you have a good shot. Otherwise, you will have to haggle directly with DirecTV.
