Posted this one in Old Pro's BB thread, but figured this one was hot enough to break out.

HP842C Color Printer $89 after $30 price drop.

PM at Staples, add something to get over $100 (like some free after rebate software), use a $25 off $100 coupon, and the printer will be $89 - $25 - $30 = $34 - less than the cost of the toner cartridges!

HP MIR link

Price matchers - go get'em!

Update: Price AFTER rebate is $89, so after PM / coupon is is more like $60 - still a hot deal!

HP has a $30 MIR for the 630c, 648c, and 842c. It is good until April 4th.

Anybody want to volunteer thier experience with these printers?
Good, Bad, Ugly?

How are they with ink? Are the cartrages expensive?

I have a friend who needs basic cheep printing capability. Is this the best deal going for that?

Thanks in advance,
jayR

I believe the $89 at BB is after the HP rebate of $30 making the price the same as Staples. So . . . about the best you could do is $64 with a $25 coupon. Hope I'm wrong - kinda wanted this as a spare.

in reply to the question about the ink cartridges, the black is overly priced for the amount of ink in the cartridge. it uses the HP no. 15 cartridge which is $28 at OD and has half the amount of ink the old HP 51645A had for the same price.

Thanks copper.

BTW, Staples has the 842c for $120 and the 648c for $99.99.
(This is Staple's regular price. NO PM.)
Using the $30 off $100 coupon and $30 rebate brings them to $60 and $40 respectively.

Thanks for the heads up. $60 is great price for this printer. It's on the way to me now to replace a POS Canon.

He's right. $89 is AFTER the rebate at BB.

$149 - $30 price drop = $119.99 - $30 = $89

So Staples will not PM it at $89.

For those that don't know about this, or have a link, here is a good and cheap supplier of refills for inkjet printers, including the HP ones. Their HP inkjet 600 line of refill works with the 648c. (I checked the cartridge numbers at the HP web site).

So if I understand this correctly - PM $119 at Staples - $30 Staples Coupon ($89) - $30 MIR = $59 final total(+tax).

So is this printer any advantage over my HP 720C ?
