3par has been a mess ever since they were bought by HP, at least in terms of sales and support... and I've heard that a lot of their technical people are jumping ship as soon as their contracts allow them to.

so theyre going to replace apothercar with an unethical person who has absolutely no experience in their business at all??

Yeah, I personally think that while Whitman is a successful businessperson, they need someone with industry experience. HP has a lot of experience at the top but for whatever reason, refuses to promote from within.

Well the one positive about Meg Whitman is that she isn't Leo. :D I don't think you can screw up any more than that fool. I didn't realize this, but he was only CEO of SAP for 10 months when they shitcanned him. He has been CEO of HP for about a year and is about to get shown the door again.

What are you talking about? This man is a genius! 10 months at previous CEO job. Maybe a year at this new one. Damn, two golden parachute payday in two years? Genius!

I'm sure Steve Jobs and Michael Dell will each send Leo some fruitcake for Christmas as a "Thank You" for the outstanding job (from the view of a competitor, that is) he did as CEO of HP.

I just heard that he would get $9.4 million (minimum) if he is fired.

The cult of the CEO has brought us to a disgusting point. Corporate governance in America is pathetic. Corporate boards need to be strengthened and CEOs should make about a tenth of what they make now.

I agree with you. As I said earlier, it is a good ole boys/girls network and the bad ones keep getting recycled elsewhere. This idiot didn't last a year at SAP and won't make that at HP either (a video I watched said he officially started last Nov 1).

Yeah. Good ole boy network is the right term. Idiots like to say that a free labor market is responsible for the insane US CEO pay, but the fact of the matter is that CEOs just sit on each others' boards and just hire each other with ridiculous contracts. Pay your friends a little bit more than the current average and then when your time comes, they'll pay you even more than that.

saddest part is that HP was the prototypical Silicon Valley company.

They should GPL WebOS, and get serious about tablets. Actually try to compete with Apple this time.
I disagree, it's just not going to pay to be in a distant 3rd place. RIM & smartphones looks like an apt comparison (and RIM was king just a couple years ago).

Don't really know the book on Meg Whitman but she did land at eBay at the perfect time, and bailed at about the perfect time when growth was tapped out. Monopolies tend to make the lucky CEOs look brilliant.

HP preparing to make Whitman CEO on Thursday

(Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co is on the verge of naming former eBay Chief Executive Meg Whitman its new CEO, replacing Leo Apotheker at the helm of the largest U.S. technology company, two sources told Reuters on Thursday.

Is WebOS going to stay dead? I like it a lot.

I hope not, because I like it too. Remember though, even though HP killed the Touchpad and webOS phones, they still claimed webOS development would continue. We'll see what happens.

I'd like to see them make calculators again. I don't really have much of a use for them anymore, but other people do. HP was the standard in scientific calculators. I'd still take a GX over anything made today, and it's 20 years old now.

I still have my 48G and I'd still have my 28S if some douche that I loaned it to in engineering school didn't lose it.

The real idiots here are the board: They knew perfectly well who Apotheker was (Enterprise Guy), and there's no way to do a $10B acquisition without board support. Now, they're just looking for a scapegoat and Whitman will fuck things up even more.

That's exactly right. Leo is an idiot but is being used as a scapegoat to cover the board's gross negligence and utter incompetence. Read the article I linked above on how they hired him.
