At the rate people are buying new m/b's, I'd say it's a safe bet that the NB stepping will be A1/C1. I finally got one of these boards about 3 weeks ago, and mine's an A1. The date of manufacture was "030312", so it's obvious that it wasn't sitting around very long!

Any other way to look at the stepping other than taking off the NB heatsink?

To differenciate between A2 and A3 northbrigde settings, no you can't.

But to differenciate between A2/A3 from C1, WCPUID can do it

This board rocks get it asap. Check out my sig for my setup. I am at 14000 3dmarks as we speak. Its really a great overclocking board.

How did you determine the date of manufacture?

Thanks.

I am looking for an upgrade to an ECS K7S5A whose " pickyness" issues drove me nuts . The price on this is great but the comments about the memory sort of bother me because I want to be able to use the whatever PNY etc memory I have in my parts bin . Is there another nforce2 close to this which is more tolerant on memory brands ?

It is their "On Sale" price. But if you look at my original post with edits there is a definite trend downward on the "On Sale" price. Most likely they are clearing stock for the release of the 8RDA3+ which is already out in some places/other countries. It has the newer nForce2 Ultra 400 chipset.

errr, I was wondering about the price on the FIC AU11. Wondering if it was $80 everyday since I live near a Frys.

Mine will arrive today. I've hope that it will be C1 NB because it will be my last Athlon XP mobo. Going to wait for Opteron to get dirt cheap.

My 2 8RDA+'s from Newegg have been C1 steppings, when flashed to the latest BIOS I get the nForce2 Ultra 400 support message. I ordered the 2nd one last week, so I'm pretty sure they're shipping all C1 northbridges from here on out.

do i need any fans on teh mobo itself?

Yes on the barton and it depends on the mobo. If you plan on overclocking the fsb to 200+mhz it wouldn't hurt to replace the nb's passive heatsink with a h/f, and then put the passive heatsink over on the sb.

Order on May 27th, got it today May 29th. It has a C1 NB. Next on my list a Barton 2500+ and 1Gig of crucial DDR400.
