gateway country stores, have been a massive money hole for gateway for a long time. the one in my town, like my dad actually asked them how many computers they sold a week, and they said something like 5 which was horrible.

But my store was profitable. Since I started, we had been doing 150% or more of our projected budget with a monthly sales average over $300,000.00, not to mention we were #1 in the company the first quarter for percent to budget. :frown: I just don't understand it 😕 Then the lease for our store wasn't up for another 2 years. I just bothers me that once I finally got my foot in the company I have wanted to work for since I was a child, they close my damned store. I can honestly tell you that our sales/managment team is one of the best out of the whole company. We were always in the top 5 in EVERYTHING when compared to the 16 other florida stores. Now Gateway has NO sales presence in the Panahandle of Florida with the closure of our store, the Talahassee store, and Pensacola's store. :|

just got the news from a friend that works at a country store. 73 stores closing. They are closing them up next Sunday. He is done in 2 weeks. He works in the service area so he is staying on an exra week to finish everything up. Only 3 stores will be left open in Michigan. Grand Rapids, Troy, and Novi. Flint, Saginaw, and East Lansing are history. Sucks. Both the repair techs at the store near me are my friends. One is really in the dumps right now.

I don't live too far away from the Troy store and drive past it a lot. It's a huge store that is always empty. I've always knew they would close that store down because it is literally dead. Don't know how it survived for the past few years. Sucks for everyone who lost their job.

My store is closing as well. Been with the company almost 5 years. Still possible im going to be xfering to another store close by so thats at least some consolation.

I don't know how or why they are not closing the Milford,ct store, there has not been a customer's car in the parking lot in the past 6 months.

I don't know your age or past experiences, but at least this was apparently a nice stepping stone for your career... good luck to you.

I work about 2 miles from the Melville, NY store, so I'll check it out later on...

Good luck finding a job. I quit Gateway about 9 months abo and predicted they wouldn't last long if they didn't revamp their business practices. Looks like they're still stuck in a downward spiral. I hope for everybody left there that they can get their act straightened out soon.

hehe.. so do i ... i work in woodbury. i'll be passing there today.

Hey... maybe we can run in there with ATOT-Bargain-Hunters on our shirts 😀

I've been to the one in Lawrence Kansas a couple of times with my 13 yr old. Both times we left saying what a cool store but we were the only people in it. I hate to see anyone lose their job--especially if they like what they are doing but jeez this place had to be a money loser.

BTW--being the ever vigilant bargain hunter does anyone know what kind of deals they will have??

Thx in advance,

JHawk

Jayhawks--on the road to the final four!

i believe there isn't one anywhere near me....sanfrancisco
never been to one...any idea why they failed?

Bummer to hear about the job, man! Out of curiousity, though, what kind of discounts are they offering on their closeout systems?

50% of the Florida stores are closing.

Looks like they are leaving only one in each market area.

No offense, but I'm bummed they aren't closing the Sarasota, FL store.

Some friends of mine owned a small 'mom and pop' PC store in sarasota probably since.. hmm.. 1989 or so. Well, Gateway comes in around 1996 and opens a huge store literally less than a block away. I understand that business is business, but it was in unbelievably poor taste. I think even standing in the parking lot of the small shop you could see the big gateay sign looming over you.

As far as I know, the small PC store still managed to do okay - but it was a shame to see Gateway do that to them. (and it's not like there were computer stores all over the area, there were 3 that I knew of, all within a couple miles of each other)

Curious if others had seen similar "placements" of Gateway stores?
