Ya see, the thing about my store is that everything is going to have to be shipped to diff. location because all of the other store in the Panhandle are gone too :frown:

And as far as placement of the Country Store goes, our was placed less than half a block away from the largest independant PC shop in the county, and they are currently going out of business.

I wish they would close the one in my town. People keep trying to convince me that they want to by a Gateway because it is local. I usually ask why they bothered to find out what my opinion is if they have made up their minds already. 🙁

No offense, but I'm bummed they aren't closing the Sarasota, FL store.

Some friends of mine owned a small 'mom and pop' PC store in sarasota probably since.. hmm.. 1989 or so. Well, Gateway comes in around 1996 and opens a huge store literally less than a block away. I understand that business is business, but it was in unbelievably poor taste. I think even standing in the parking lot of the small shop you could see the big gateay sign looming over you.

As far as I know, the small PC store still managed to do okay - but it was a shame to see Gateway do that to them. (and it's not like there were computer stores all over the area, there were 3 that I knew of, all within a couple miles of each other)

Curious if others had seen similar "placements" of Gateway stores?
I know that store! Next to the Holiday Inn, yah? My grandparents bought a clone PC from them. Pretty good service apparently, but they didn't provide a restore disk or a Windows CD. I dropped by to have a look, asked about buying some I/O back plates. The "dudes" gave a couple to me for free--nice guys. They're still making $ from my grandparents bringing the PC in periodically for service 😀

The Gateway in Fort Myers is also remaining open. I called to inquire and the salesman claimed that it is one of the best performing stores. I think the Florida markets with lots of senior citizens are still growing as more of the older folks hop on the Internet. BTW, that Gateway did open in the same strip mall as a small PC store which has since gone out of business. Hmm . . .
