Wow. Worked in Lawrence, KS, earlier this week. Tried it in KC today and was told that I had to pay for the installation, but would get the memory for free. I stayed persistent, and was told several different stories by several different people, and was eventually told to leave the store. I asked why? I hadn't been rude, loud, profane, or anything else, and was just told to leave. I asked for the name and number of the district manager, and was given a 1-800 number. I called it right there in line, and it was disconnected. Then, finally, the sales manager came over and told me that he wasn't going to do it, and that is why we have a court system. Then he said "Look. I'm not a bullsh*tter. This isn't gonna happen." I kept calm, and said to him, "Well, not that I don't believe you about that, but I have a coupon that clearly says one thing, and you're telling me it's no good. Sounds like bullsh*t to me." So I walked out after about 30 minutes of back and forth for no good.

It would be one thing if this coupon said ANYTHING AT ALL about the limitations, but he was making them up on the spot. "Doesn't apply to sale memory. Doesn't apply to memory under $90, etc." I thought it was pretty clear that it applied to ANY memory. Oh well. They won't miss me. I only go there to do crap like this anyway. I suppose I'm a demon customer, but it's better than being one of their *good* customers, that bends over and takes the warranty from behind like a good boy.

Didn't work either, SOB.
They told me i need to either have receipt for purchase of laptop.desktop in order to get coupon work.
I knew this would be too good to be true, especially at bestbuy.

Damn, wasted one hour and gas.

Best Buy should take the coupon. According to intercompany publications best buy is aware of the of the coupon mistake and they should accept it if the customer "insists." The coupon was supposed to have "not on advertised specials" printed on it.

though my attempts and one best buy store failed.

I might have to try this out tommorrow.. maybe I'll just bring in one of my notebooks, let them install the ram if they hastle me about it, and then take the ram out and repeat at another Best Buy 🙂. Haha, it's worth a try!

I tried it and was 50% successful. I was able to get a 512mb stick installed at one BB but when I went somewhere else, it was sold out. I live in the bay area and it's either sold out everywhere or BB's around aren't honoring the coupon anymore. A lot of the managers are calling it a fake and don't even bother to help u if you have that coupon. At least I got one while it was still on the market =P

I hope I can convince the other store near me to sell it without forcing installation, since the Geeks don't do Macs 🙁 Would they have to force you to do installations on memory cards too? LOL plug it in for $30.

For anyone scoring an SD card... please post details.

Went to BB near Tacoma Mall and tried for a 512mb SD card. Took it straight to the cashier and said "I'd also like to buy installation... here's the sku#" -- and gave her the memory install sku#. She tried it, but everything rang up full price, with the coupon ringing up as a $0 line-item. No affect on the total $.
So I said "ok... nevermind..." and put the SD card back. Then went over to the geek squad area and picked up 256MB pc ram. They took the coupon and I could see the attitude begin to develop. The main geek said, "Oh... You _HAVE_ to have your PC so we can install it in order for you to get the deal." I had had a funny feeling that I should bring my pc along, just in case -- so I was able to reply: "I've got it out in my car."
The dude rings me up and the Installation charge wasn't zeroed -- so I pointed out that the coupon said "memory AND installation" (not memory WITH installation). He started to give me attitude -- and was not going to budge on the $29 install. So I said: "Well... what's the 512mb ram cost?" It was a little over $90 (a joke!), so I took that instead. Not the super hot deal I was hoping for, but ~$35 for 512MB pc2700 was warm enough for the sale.
My PC is a little compact htpc that was quite a puzzle to figure out when I first built it -- so I was going to let the dude struggle with how it all fits together.... but he ended up passing the install to some other guy who was pretty friendly with me while we waited for it to boot the first time. (Running win2k server, so it took several minutes to boot) So I helped the guy out showing him which screws he needed to un-do.

For me, the $35 for 512MB ram was only a *warm* deal. I think typical "deals" are ~$50 for the same 512mb -- so not the super deal I was hoping for. If you get lucky and score it for ~$5... THAT would be hot.

I gave up on my trek for an SD card once I saw the coupon didn't work. Is there some other "installation sku" for SD cards that work? I'd love to stock up on 512MB (or even 256MB) SD cards.
If you've been successfull with SD cards, please post your details, or PM me -- and I'll make the rounds tomorrow.
OH... and in all the shuffling that happened, I ended up putting a bare SD card back on the rack -- without the plastic box with the security thingy on it. So some lucky thief is probably now enjoying a 512MB SD card 🙁

you'd have to argue with them on the sd cards and point out that it falls under memory...but that really wasn't what the coupon was intended for, it just uses vague language.

Yea they do sorta give you an attitude. As if they really don't want to sell it to you and trying to talk you out of it. I mean if Best Buy wants to give out 90 bucks, why would the damn employees care? What good does it serve them?

damn thing didnt work for me either. sold out of kingston so i tried to get a 256 sodimm for free. he wanted to charge installation and give me the ram for free. manager ended up showing me a "corporate memo" about how it was a mistake and yeah...

I got my 512MB sd card for free. The manager on shift just did an over ride and didn't really seem to care except when we tried using 4 coupons in one day there 😉

went to the arlington heights BB @ IL .

same bs. they said they'll have to charge me the service fee.. although it says memory AND installation. other wise I'll have to get the memory @ before sales price...

didnt want to waste time with them.. oh well 😉

Got my local BB in FL to do it today.

Didn't take much - cashier didn't know what to do w/ coupon, so I took it to customer service desk. $59.99 for memory and $30 for installation - $90 coupon = $0 (OK, I did buy the LCD Soundsystem CD for $14.99 🙂 Couldn't just rob them blind.)

Anyone put this stick in their laptop yet? If it's a Compaq/HP or one with an ATI Xpress 200M chipset, could you please speak up/PM me?

From Amazon's web site.
Important: All purchases must be made in a single order placed between June 1 and June 30, 2005.

So, I guess, even when the web site says at the top, $30 Gift Card, it also says restrinctions and it has a link to it, and it shows that is not valid any more.

WTF?

i got in on this yesterday..went to the BB in norman...they had 256mb KVR DDR400 on sale for 24.99 per stick...i grabbed all 4 on the shelf and got out for 10 bucks no installation fee at all

they tried to tell me the coupon was fake until i called my little bro and had him pull the link from images.bestbuy.com out of my email and text it to my phone, then i pulled it up in the store and told them to shove it, give me my RAM...took me about an hour but i now have $$3.25 tied up in each of these 4 sticks 😀

w00t for BB's stupidity...what's funny is this is the first thing i've ever bought there, since their prices suck...i even told them "is this worth losing a customer over?" LOLOL

Ok i went to BestBuy in Columbia, MD and it did not worked for me too i spent 1 hour talking to the manager and all other MotherF$#%$#%^ but they did not override it. The store manager was not there, this coupon took the memory price off made it $0 but the installation price was there $29.99.
How can we take that installation price off, i called the 1800 number from store and the lady at the cooporate office did not even knew about this coupon. So i took the store number from them and memory sales managers name before i walked out.
That manager was one hell of a %^$^&%^&&* even a guy at the geek squad was surprise that why he is not overriding it.
I am going to call 1888 best buy again and tell them how $%^$%^$% their costumer service is at this store.
So any other ideas fokes how can we get it free?
Does that CASE# 19986217 should work if i go back or i should try other store.

I called 1-888-BESTBUY to ask about the coupon just now, and they told me that there was another page that went along with the coupon specifying terms and conditions, and one of the conditions was that you had to purchase a new computer or notebook for the coupon to apply. Sounds like the person who designed the coupon was just silly when they didn't include that information on the second page.

Could be BS, but they guy sounded honest. At any rate, I'm not gonna drive all the way to BB to have them reject the coupon since I live in a city and I'm sure they won't let me get away with it...

That coupon was valid upto yesterday this is a new coupon some of them don;t know about it. You have to read the whole coupon to them, but any ways do you guys think $29.99 is a good price for 512MB PC2700 or there is a way we can nail this.

hehe, just came home with one 😀

kingston isn't on sale, so you grab a k-byte one...manager was pissed, but couldn't do anything about it.

Does anyone know if I return it without a reciept (as a gift), if I'll get store credit for the sticker price on it ($199), or for the last sale price ($59.99)? I wanted to return it for store credit in about a month or so.
