UPDATED:Floppy Drive Problems

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I bought a new floppy, and a new cable. The floppy now works.

Take care,
Raymond

Here is my problem. Any floppy disk that I insert into the drive, I try to open it, and I get: Drive is not formatted, do you want to format it?

Any solution to this problem?

Thank you for your time.

Raymond

I'd say that either (a) your floppies need to be formatted, or (b) your drive is going bad.

Try formatting a floppy and see what happens. If problems persist, check your cable connections. Floppy drives do sometimes go bad, but luckily they are not too expensive to replace.

I recently had one do this -- If you can't get it to work after using a cleaner disk, the drive's probably shot. The first thing I was told to do was to delete it from the system resources and let windoze refind it. If that doesn't work, then the drive needs replaced. Unless it's in a floppy or in something with a propriatary bios like compaq, they're cheap enough and easy to replace.

Good luck
