Wow this is tempting but I am really hoping a deal will be struck at the 11th hour to get BF3 on Steam.
Maybe, but you'll need Origin anyway and I doubt the Steam price will be under $42.

Not just "chances are", Origin is required. It will give you an activation code which you put into origin once the game unlocks. Now I'm not sure if Origin is how we have to download it as well or if there will be an Amazon specific download.

hmm.....so i can preload? =D

That I'm not sure. I bought Crysis 2 through Amazon linked to Origin, but I don't think preloading was possible. Since your CC isn't charged on amazon until the time it's out, then you don't get your key till that day either. And since you don't have your key, you can't link to Origin yet. SO I think unless amazon allows pre-load on preorders we're SOL... which I think is the case.

Unless Origin allows preload of a game you haven't yet purchased, we'll have to wait until day of to start downloading.

one of the selling points buying on origin lists as the ability to preload. I did just cancel my origin order and grabbed this one tho

hmm what's the origin bonus for pre-order? No matter what it is might be hard to justify $20.

How did you order 2 copies? I don't get a qty field. I ordered one for myself, but I would like to get one for my son at this good price.

Had to go through the ordering process twice. I looked for the ability to add a qty but they apparently didnt think anybody would order two downloadable versions. I had to get one for me and one for my GFs son.

Haha, be hilarious if it wound up w/ ridiculous range and power, mowing everything in it's path. :D

Its the only thing that made me hesitate on this, as I use shotguns at least 50% of the time. But the 870 is no joke so I figured I'd save the $20.

Will buying this game from Amazon allow me to activate the product on Origin? Or will I be forced to download the software from Amazon every time I purchase something from its website?

I don't think there actually is any Amazon software, but I'm pretty sure you'll need to download it from Amazon every time, not from Origin.

In other news, you'll be able to pre-load on Amazon!

Pre-order Battlefield 3 - Limited Edition and you will be able to pre-load the game starting at 7am PST on October 21, 2011.

I recently bought Assassins Creed: Brotherhood from Amazon, and when you buy it you can go to amazon.com/YourGames, and you will see the games you bought there, along with product keys. So if you have the key you can probably just redownload from Origin. The only Amazon software I had was a <1MB exe, and the only thing it does it download that specific game. In AC:B's case, I will probably never need to redownload from Amazon, as the download is just a folder which you can backup any way you want.

It actually seems like a better service than Steam in some ways, in that you just buy the game and play it, and thats it. Dont have to worry about a violation/ban and losing all your games. I think most games going forward will have autoupdaters, and thats the main reason I like Steam.

Awesome that it gives you the game files and you can do with them as you please - very helpful for reinstalling after upgrade, for instance.

So if you have the key you can probably just redownload from Origin.

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Edit: I just talked to EA support and they have confirmed that game keys bought from services besides Origin will be able to be activated and managed through Origin.
