(Updated: Adobe Reader 10 available, never mind patching Reader 9)

Update: Adobe released Reader 10.0, and it's got a new security feature you're going to want. So never mind about updating Adobe Reader 9, just uninstall it and get Reader 10 instead.

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.0.0/

and the smaller file is Reader alone, while the larger one also contains Adobe AIR 😛

Saw this at Sunbelt's blog. Acrobat and Adobe Reader are getting out-of-cycle patches tomorrow to fix some vulnerabilities that are being exploited in the wild.

BTW, besides using the Update feature that comes with Reader or Acrobat, you can also get the full installers from Adobe's FTP site. For U.S. English Reader for Windows, for example, hit

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.4.0/en_US/

and you'll note there's two sizes of files. The smaller one is Reader alone, and I believe the larger one <editorial mode> crams AIR down your throat along with it </editorial>.

Tangentially, if you're taking an interest in patching Reader, then you probably already know about Secunia's PSI software check-up utility too, but just in case... http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/

Sure thing, and here's another that I find useful when it's time to update Flash Player:

ActiveX Flash Player installer for IE
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe

non-ActiveX Flash Player installer for FireFox, etc
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe

Thanks mechBgon. Is there any other flash links to download the flash installer you can extract instead of install like you use to be able to do? Reason I ask is because I use the portable version of Firefox and only need the NPSWF32.dll file.

I haven't seen one, no. Adobe has big Zip files that contain multiple versions of Flash Player so developers can test with them, but they're still .exe installers inside.

Thanks good to know there isn't one anymore thanks! Glad I have my backup plan 🙂
